Took out actuating rod from rearset & connector on gear shaft, done lever mod, put it back together, can't seem to select gear.
Have fiddled, will sometimes find 1st, but won't change up past 2nd any ideas???

Hi all,

What mod? Guess you need to adjust the length of the connectors on the rod (i.e. reduce length) so the rod moves to change up :smt017
Did you measure the length before you took it apart?

errrr what lever mod :smt017 don't know this one.

The usual gear change problems are that the linkage is not moving freely or the gear pedal is not moving freely on its pivot and it's not moving back properly to its rest position.

That or something interfering with its movement is the first place to look.

We'll worry about the gearbox etc once you've checked this out.

Though, what is this lever mod? - sounds suspicious

Is this fitting rearsets? as opposed to normal gearshift?

Bet you've put the lever back onto the splined shaft in a different position.

Take it back off and move it round a tooth or two until it works

OK, gear mod - have removed the foot lever for the gear-shift, taken out the bush in the middle & replaced it with a roller bearing, can see it on AF1.
Have not removed the end attached to the splines on the rod into the gearbox, only removed the bar threaded both ends which links the foot lever to the actuator into the gearbox.
Did not measure before i took it off, but have had it out a couple of times to clean all the sheite behind the front sprocket cover before with no problems.
Have now turned the rear wheel & it will engauge to 1st or 2nd but nothing else ( should it go 3rd/4th/5th on a paddock stand without the engine running???/)
Since I did not remove the gearbox spline attachmend end, which I have already puched to ensure it is always in the same place, can't see what the fork I have done!

Its got to be the rod adjustment then.

I'm not sure you can go right through the box with the bike on a paddock stand - I take it you haven't tried it on the road yet? - might be ok when you do.

Have you got a link?
Would be interested to see the detail and understand why people have felt the need to do this one.

Odd, you should be able to go through all the gears by hand, you are giving the rear wheel a spin with the clutch in each time you change gear aren't you? Got to get the gears aligned or they won't engage.

Not good with this sort of thing, but hope above should show the way.
