#1 Post by cornish mafia » Fri Jul 23, 2010 3:53 am

Can i ask you lot for the history of the OZ wheels for the aprilia .......what year they changed from super light to Aprilia copies and also what year they made them wider on the hud ......by 5mm i think ? And what year to buy for our bikes .....

Looking for info which could be important at the moment ...

Many thanks ......AGAIN. :smt009

I don't think there was necessarily a year that the heavy ones took over - I think the Factory models still had lightweight ones.

You need to look for the OZ logo stamped in to the area the spokes join together near the hub.

The rear hubs are the same width for all years but the front hub was made wider at the time the radial mounted brake callipers were introduced - which was on the 2003 Mille-R.

Of course there will be bikes registered in 2003 that were built before that time .........

In fact if you look at these ones on evilbay, they are the genuine article (see OZ stamp) but they are for a 2006 bike .... ie a wider front hub.
(I believe some have had them machined down to fit their Falcos BTW)

Hope this helps

What he said. It's not a year thing, it's a model change thing. The OZ copies came out with the newer shape RSVR and Tuono, the ones with radial calipers.

Have a look on the AF1 shop, they usually have a few sets for each bike for sale, you can get some serious money off depending on the exchange rate and if they're having a sale, even after the thieving customs bastards have had their pound of flesh.

That is just what I was waiting to hear, especially the hub change in 2003...

I brought a set of OZ wheels a while ago , they had been resprayed but thought nothing of it until I went to fit tyres as it all looked fine to me .......you couldn't really see to look at them but when getting them balanced you could see the rear wheel had been damaged and repaired on the rim as there was a flat spot of about 3” which was easy to see while going round at speed .......as I got them off flea bay I had to get PayPal involved and have now got my money back . :smt003 They were sold to me as oz wheels off a 2001 bike and in perfect condition but when I went to fit the front wheel the hub was too wide which I thought was when they changed to radial calipers ...thanks Nooj ..........hence the reason for the question...

And this “gentleman” is now saying that I’m lying and is trying to get his money back saying I damaged them while having the tyres fitted. I have emailed him telling him he's full of it and you would see damage to the wheels on the paint work which there is none if I had done so, may also add if he'd like to come down and discuss it over a pint that I’m more than happy to help him drink it... :smt013

I will probably have to send them back to him at some point but will make sure I warn all before I do so if anyone see's them back on eBay you'll know they're crap .........They're a set off GOLD OZ wheels ( not the light ones either ) from a 2001 rsvr , so he says , and I will let you know the sellers name if they come back .......at the moment they're sitting in my house but I may have to send them back cause of PayPal ......time will tell. The front one was fine by the way but the rear has been repaired. Have told him once I’m paid for the postage or he’s paid to have them collected he can have them back.

Tell you what though with that and now this bloody swinging arm cock up I’m starting to get very pee’d with this whole tart the bike up game we play. The thing is I know as soon as I get home and open the garage again I’ll forget all about it and start playing once more!!Just to top my luck off now I’ve just found out we’re about to sail into Nigerian waters to do a small job not far off the coast so for the final kick in the nuts we’ll probably be boarded by the local pirates………only two weeks or so to go …….get me home !!!

Once again thanks for the advice lads very very appreciated.....:smt023

They may have been off a 2001 RSV that had had later forks fitted, I think the 2003 factory (last of the old shape RSVR's) had radial calipers, I'm pretty sure the Edwards Rep did, so they could have been from one of those.

The new shape RSVR came out in 2004, I don't know if those forks fit the older style bikes, but they all had radial calipers from the start.

If they were listed as OZ wheels in perfect condition and they were actually damage repaired OZ copies, the bloke hasn't got a leg to stand on. I'd suggest getting Griff from Aprilia Performance to identify them 'officially' once you're back from busting pirate ass.

I use to have an Edwards rep and the OZ Wheels on that were the OZ wheels of old so not from there , yes ,like you say ,could have had the mod done and come off that but still either way it's all wrong on his part . Not too woried either way as again like you say he hasn't got a leg to stand on really ......he wouldn't have any legs if i had my way !!! :smt005

As for busting pirates ass it's whether they try to bust my ass that i'm more then worried about !!! :smt010

Rent-a-pirate. £3 per hour on retainer rising to £30 an hour if you're actively repelling a boarding party, free cutlass, parrot food allowance and eye patch, but the eye patch has to be see-through for health and safety reasons.

Right getting a set of OZ wheels from a 04+ RSV doesn't sound a good idea then as not keen on the idea of the 'grinding down' process, would the alternative be to buy the forks and yokes from the same model (feeling dizzy as i type this...!)

you guys who got OZ's are dam lucky, never any around when i have the cash to hand :smt012

When you say getting Grief'd in Feb what is he doing to your bike ...........as i'm assuming that's what you meant !?!?! :smt017 If it's that good i may have to get Griff'd as well ...... :smt005

BUT as for the wheels all i can say is good luck as it took me a while to find some ......good luck as they are out there !! Also , although let the forum gods check this first , i think the OZ wheels after 2003 changed to Aprilia OZ copies which aren't as light weight as the earlier ones .....

Welcome back Cornish, there where some interesting 'respray' threads whilst you were away

Yes going to see Griff again in Feb for tea/biscuits and a bit of work on the Falco-

Swingarm/yellow spring shock fitting
Brakes servicing and Hel lines fitting
Suspension setting up
Clutch jet (if he can get the thing out this time!)

Have also got Scotoiler, R&G exhaust hangers, HID/light mod, side indies and RSV mirrors to fit, but i think i can handle these...not doing a 'Rick' :smt003

Ah well will keep looking, not fussed on Oz's or Bembro copies, just like the look of them, but the monies quickly running out

Hi Furygan

The respray is still on the cards just can't make up my mind which way to go .......Italian flag colours or one colour only ? The more i look at it the more l'm liking the bike the way it is with the red wheels , thing is after saying that black and bronze are fastest in the ride mag Falco write up i'm finding it hard to change colours ..........didn't get any abuse for that either you lot must have been bored !!

Am still struggling to get the bike running spot on and the dyno run has been put off till the weather changes and i can get a good couple of days giving it a good thrashing when done . Does Griff do dynos and are the tea and biscuits free ??? :smt003
