Falco as a track bike

#1 Post by rick » Tue Jul 20, 2010 4:00 pm

Anyone used their Falco/bought another Falco for track use?

I've never done a track day but its something I've always wanted to do, but definitely don't want to use my beloved Falco on the track for fear of trashing it... so was toying with the idea of buying another one...

...I know I shouldnt' think about coming off before I've even started but its quite likely to happen at some point :smt003

Pierre is your man - he has one for the road and one for the track

Rick

You can have mine if you want. I'm sad to say the Falco just doesn't suit me. I feel ashamed, as I know it's a great bike, and folk here have been very helpful in my brief ownership.
It's a 2001, Ohlins shock, steering damper, fork springs (not fitted), Oz wheels, Scorpion cans and other stuff.
Would like £2500 for it, as have a few money probs to sort too as it happens. I'll be polishing it up soon (use it daily) so will post it for sale here soon. Let me know if you're interested. Good luck with your search if not.

Don't feel ashamed Rene - you've given it a go and if it doesn't "fit" you, it's better to admit it and find something that does.
I think Falcos can be most things to a lot of people but there's not a bike out there that is perfect for everybody - even the might Falco.

Hope the finances get sorted too - those sort of worries are things you can do without.

rick : I bought mine as a catD writeoff for errrr I think £1600 when my sprag went on my roadbike&I needed an engine quick (summer is only like 3 weeks or something)

Good points :
Engines are plentyfull, dont fix it -swap it :smt002
Most crashy bits are interchangable with the RSV
Stand out among the jap pap
Play up the ' its a falco SL , stands for sport leisure dontcha know, built for touring - was that your gsxr i rode round the outside of? nice bike ' :smt003
Reliable. Mines been spanked for 3 years on track with only oil and filter changes. Changed to the new rsv engine type just to try and keep up with mates r6 but original engine is still fine with 35k on.

Bad bits :
The jap bikes will bone you on a decent straight. I've looked down to see 150+ on speedo and been sucked towards an R1 as it blasted past that fast.
Compared to a modern 600 its fking heavy, but with oz's on you dont really notice once moving
Might just be mine, but it guzzles fuel. Usually a 20L can, 2gallon containers and half a tank of fuel in 6x20 min sessions. 180miles at croft, 30 miles a session, about 20 to gallon?

Plenty of cheap rsv trackbikes if its just the rotax youre into

Rick, mines up for grabs too if you're interested. Got another bike potentially in the pipeline so it needs to go. PM if you're intested. It's Here
The ride is the reason ........ the destination is just the excuse.
