Hello me again

I'm planning on seeing Griff early Aug to set the bike and service/fit the suspension/shock, also looking to sort the clutch jet too.

Have recently fitted some new cans so is it worth me buy a PC111 or Chip and have all this sorted at the same time? If so where do i start, my concern isn't end power, just smooth delivery.

Could someone give me an overview of what they do and how much they are and where to ge them from or is it not worth bothering? All options very welcome to help me decide

if you had the wire snipped to the ecu you'll find the bike will run fine with the cans. but the other bits you mention make it even better.

The way I got rid of the 3-5k flat spot and got her running REAL smooth with grunt enough to pull your arms out of your sockets is I fitted an FP chip.

A PC111 with a good map will do the same but you only need to fit either, not both.

The "problems" you are trying to address with chips and/or a PCIII are:

• 1) The bikes set up from the factory is a compromise between performance, smoothness, emissions and noise. The last two are legislative so they are given a greater weighting than you may choose in your "ideal" setup.
  
  2) Any changes you make to intake (air box / throttle bodies etc) or exhaust or the engine itself will alter the fuel/air mix and you may need to correct this to make it run well.

The Chips and PCIII are both ways to address these issues.
A chip will replace the standard chip you have in your ECU and will contain a new map to alter the fuelling but it will just be that - a new map. Therefore you need to select a chip that has been designed for your setup. Gabro, for example, will ask you what configuration you have and he will make a chip to suit.
Chips are fine but if you make subsequent changes, you may need to get a new chip to suit - depending on how much of a change you make.

What a PCIII gives you is a device that can adjust the fuelling to your engine. You can load it with new maps as often as you like and you can alter those maps yourself with a PC. There are maps on websites that you can download and you can see which works for you .... but all of that is a bit hit and miss. You can take your bike to a Dynojet centre to get a custom map made for your bike - and it should be a good map for your bike (though as temperatures and pressures vary from day to day it will not always be optimal).
If you make further changes to your bike, you can get a new map made .... but that may be no cheaper than getting Gabro to make you a new chip.

Now I've not told you the whole story ...... SOME chips (FP, Gabro, Renegade) also make changes to the ignition timing map which can make additional improvement.
The PCIIIs for the Falco cannot control ignition timing (Dynojet's Ignition module add-on is not compatible). Therefore, in that respect, they have an advantage ...... unless you use both together - one of the chips to modify the ignition timing plus a PCIII to further optimise the fuel map.

If i get a K&N filter and stick with the Carbon cans and don't plan to do any 'performance' mods i would be okay with a chip, but would need to discuss who i bought the chip from what I'm aiming for and what i want performance/riding style wise...is it worth me getting a chip with just these mods??

They're probably the most common mods performance wise, there will be a good choice of chips available for such a set up, so yes see what's available. Maybe see what comes up in the for sale section here and especially over on the AF1 site if you want a cheap intro into trying chips out.

The best/most popular ones have already been listed: Gabro, FP, Renegade etc. but there are others. A lot of people will be able to give you info on what's good and what's not. Avoid the cheap ones on e-bay though, get a good 'name' one, they're well known for a reason.

The chip is the cheaper of the two and easy enough for you to do yourself , take the old one out and replace with new one .......

I have a chip from Gabro and have to say he knows what he's doing , bike runs great with it in ......

I can only second Gabros very excellent work. It's transformed my bike into a creamy wave of smooth power delivery right through the rev range. I let a few mates have a go the other weekend and they were most impressed with the transformation.

Your right i forgot to mention about being VERY VERY careful when removng said chip AND make sure you get the cut out on the chip the right way round cause that could be a problem ....

That's a "5" Paddy ..... and they don't do it for the Falco - the 3 is the best power commander available to us
