wobbly mirror

just noticed that one of the mirrors on mine is not the same as the other one.. mainly because it has started to fold in whenever I go fast
looking closer and I can see that the fairing has some hairline cracks around the base of the mirror - and the ball joint is silver rather than black - so its a replacement one..
had a look around and there are some fairly cheap mirrors available
can anyone recommend replacements that will definitely fit properly though (and not wobble or fold in?)

Try tightening up the 10mm nut at the end of the stalk 1st

ok cool will do
don't recall seeing a nut - do you have to remove the mirror to get to it?

No, its buried up under the bottom clamp plate but a normal socket works fine

Hi,
Just had the same problem last week & tightening up the nut makes no difference, as it pulls up to a shoulder on the bolt stem. The tension on the mirror swivel is created by a spring, the mirror end of the bolt sits in a spherical cup lined with a plastic/rubber grommet which is springy & creates some friction, which on mine wasn't fitted properly.
You need to take the mirror off, check that everything fits properly & if you think it needs to be tighter you need to put more load on the spring (I put a washer under one end or other of the spring, it must be big enough to go past the shoulder on the bolt otherwise it just moves the nut rather than the spring).
It all makes sense if you undo the nut & remove the mirror.
Rob
PS. don't have to look at my elbow now !

hmmm .... tightening the nut does make a difference as this is how you increase the load on the spring ..... well, with my ones anyway.
Certainly worth doing as you suggest and making sure it's all put together properly.

its now got the stage where 30mph will fold it in, so its useless basically

put on the RS125 'extended mirrors' at the weekend and found them an improvment and like they say, tighten the nut and no wobble and yes, i'm from Hinckley!!

Screwing things usually works, one of my mirrors needs adjusting as it keeps slipping, and believe it or not my bike is returning home....bit by bit...I was allowed to take the seat hump home today

tighten the nut works!
looks like i had managed to loosen the nut by swiveling the mirrors to get the bike through the garden gate
also turns out if i just swivel the mirror the other way, it actually tightens it so I don't even need a spanner :)
