major service + scott oiler fitted = £650

#1 Post by herbacious » Sat May 29, 2010 3:39 pm

Just got the new falco serviced - full service including fitting a scott oiler v system as well

came to £650 total inc vat

spark plugs
oil filter
workshop sundries
brake pads
air filter
oil
coolant
brake fluid
fuel injection set up
scott oiler

+ 6.5 hours labour

Mrs = not happy

Credit Card = smarting

seems like a lot to me, but then I suppose they did a lot

they are Aprillia main dealers though so I was expecting it to be more than the usual back of the industrial estate guys I normally use, its by far the most I have ever spent on a service..

take away the scottoiler and it still comes to about £550

what do you lot think?

Does seem very steep. On the flip side, you've got a full dealer service under it's belt (you didnt have a service book did you?) so at least now it's out of warranty you can drop back to 'normal' garages (or doing it via the guys here on the forum)
The Aprilia specialist garage / dealership found no other ills that needed looking at after it's.. 8 or so years... of seemingly not seeing a spanner, so all's well.
One for experience I guess.

yep thats what im thinking

i wanted at least one proper dealer service

next time it will be back to the cheaper guys

everyone on the forum lives miles away from me so that's out of the question

anyone can recommend a good cheap bike mechanic in the shipley/bradford area tho I'm all ears

thats a fucking rip off

I would ask for a full bill breakdown - and no disrespect but you need the book times - the book says how long a job takes, irrespective of if it has been worked on before

and 40 quid an hour.... rip off

i would write to aprilia uk asking if this is normal as at that price you would not want to buy an aprilia as a ducati would be cheaper

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

to me that's a rip of,how much was the scott oiler, service parts.you've probabley paid over £350 in labour.in my trade main dealership servicing will cost you about £400 and they don't even take the wheels off.new legistlation introduced last year states that so long as oe spec parts are used you can take you bike or car to any garage to keep your warrenty valid.
as alad says ask for a break down.

labour was £260 (ex vat)

though they billed the fuel injection setup separately (£95 ex vat) which presumably is another lot of labour?

scott oiler was £80 ex vat

total was £556 ex vat

some damn nice bikes in that showroom tho :)

That sounds total blox to me.
Do they expect you to get it serviced first to make it easier for them to errm, service!

scottoiler is 75 from my local stealers including vat

i would strongly suggest a a recorded delivery letter to them, asking for a full breakdown of what work has been done, and also asking for the book times for this work

and that you expect a written reply inside 10 working days

and please do specify in your letter that you are VERY unhappy at what you have had to pay - and will be looking to persue this matter further with other interested parties
