I think I'm missing something obvious???

Hope someone can help. I've just fitted a tail tidy and have had to change the standard indicators. I've fitted some Oxford mini indicators with 12 Volt 21W bulbs, now they flash at about twice the rate they used too?
I've still got the standard ones on the front, could this be the problem, or do I need a different relay? I bloody hate electrics!!!

... and the Aprilia indicators use 10W bulbs so you would change the flash rate by fitting 21W bulbs.
Most easy solution is to fit a solid state flasher - I think Pete got one from Halfords when he was sorting out Hanna's bike.

should work fine - but sure they are bulbs and not leds??
try connecting you old indicator to double check the wiring - as in make sure the flasher unit is ok
beyond that, wait till badger pubes comes along with the solution
(I would get in quick - jadaris thinks she has found a new use for a snood and wants to kill both of us....)

D-Rider is right on this one. I had the same problem trying to fit the same indicators. Due to the extra current being drawn by the 21W bulbs the old-fashioned type flasher can which is fitted as standard is flummuxed and flashes too fast ( the opposite problem as LEDs but for the same reason).

doh - i forgot that!
think a replacement flasher unit was all of 5 quid....

Well I bought a flasher from Halfrauds and now the buggers don't flash at all they just stay on??
Re-checked the Oxford indicators and they're definitely not LED, so I'm baffled??
Don't really want to change the front indicators, but is this the only option to get the bloody things working properly as it's MOT time?
I really do hate bloody electrics!

And people often ask me why do you still have the standard indicators on your Falco????

i had same problem with indicators flashing too fast, i just let it go but, passed mot no prob. now i hav new problem, i have led's all round and cant get them working. tried a universal led relay which flashed all 4 indicators, tried 8 ohm resistors from maplin, installed in parallel which it just melted! now i'm stuck!!

Did you do the diode mod for the instrument pack wiring? The way the flasher indicator is wired in the cluster will cause LEDs to all flash unless you do the diode mod.
.... which reminds me .... I never finished the thread that explains it all - sorry.
I'll get on and sort it out .... in the meantime, here's what I've done so far in case it's any use:

no havent done the diode mod, ragin!! were do i find this, i take it tjhis is in the clocks? that wee link dosen't seem to be working, ordered 50w resistors from the bay, so hopefully that should sort the flashing.

Without the diodes fitted it wont work, trust me

yip need to fit them to, what size do i need to get? and do the clocks have to be removed? indicators are such a pain in the hole!!

Any diode in the 1N series - they are all 1 amp, its only the PIV that varies.
1N4001's will do nicely and you can do the mods without removing the dash but if you do, its a lot easier
