Brake Discs to change or not??/

#1 Post by old git » Sun May 23, 2010 11:25 am

OK, discs are down to 5mm, min thickness says 4.5mm
So, should I change them yet or wait until they drop to the min.
Sounds a bit of a daft question, but I have no point of reference for how long the 0.5mm will last.
I am not to heavy on the brakes, so maybe it will run another year, i have no idea.
Think that If I do have to replace, will do braded lines at the same time.
Thoughts and recommendations will be considered in the usual manner.

I'd not change them until they were out of spec but it is worth keeping an eye on e-bay etc for replacements if the price is right.
Check them before each MOT.

I got gold rsv r carriers with thinner discs with my OZ wheels and I think the discs and carriers make a significant (50%?) contribution to the overal weight reduction. You might see them advertised seperately and they are worth picking up for that weight reduction alone.

or how about a pair of these ..... mine arrived this morning ....

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BN-RSV-TUONO-SHIV ... 518ab6dc7c

excellent price and they are the better Sunstar discs (it seems Aprilia dual sourced these - Brembo and Sunstar - and it seems that the view is that Sunstar are the better ones .... you can tell the Sunstar ones as they only have 6 bobbins between carrier and disc .... unlike the picture on ebay which shows the similar Brembo ones on the bike)

Did look at those, but they never answered a message I sent, so....
Looked at the Blackshadow ones, likey the look of the wavey disc, anyone used them recently???
Like the idea of a full set of the same, probably in the gold if I go this route.

Thoughts, ideas????
