official aprilia falco rack and panniers - any good

got an opportunity to get the official rack and paniers - going to cost me lets say £150

is it worth it you think?

its for the 2 week european tour coming up..

I do already have an (admittedly damn tatty) pair of oxford panniers (who needs crash bungs when you have panniers eh :) ) so I could just use those...

or I could buy a brand spanking set of soft oxford panniers for something like £60-£100

so the big question - is the aprilia gear worth that extra???

its just the rack and panniers - no mention of the tank bag

that's another point - what (affordable) tank bags are good do you think?

I can't help on the panniers as I use a home-made Givi hard pannier set-up because I dislike soft panniers. However, for tank bags, I'm a fan of the Baglux system. Whether it's affordable is too subjective for me to comment on but it protects the tank, gives a rock solid base for a tank bag or the useful map case, especially when we can't use magnetic bags.

Crash bungs are cheaper! - found out the hard way. Amazing how strong that plastic is.

I've got the Falco panniers and frame. They're pretty good but as with just about all soft luggage, lack the security of hard luggage.
I've also got the Aprilia tank bag - with a plastic tank there aren't too many options.

not too worried about security tbh - anything I would worry about will be with me I suppose - and my Dad who I am going with has a lockable top box so we can stash stuff in that.

The question though is would you rate the aprilia rack and panniers?

are they worth £150 to me (second hand) or would I be better spending that cash on some other luggage option do you think?

150 for the panniers and racks is too much

i would suggest that - and these are ballpark figures - around 50 for the tank bag, around 80 for the panniers and racks and around 70 for the tail roll

those are the prices i sold mine for at any rate :)

geman ebay throws all three up fairly reguarly - indeed, i bought my tail roll brand new from there :)

I'd agree that £150 is OTT.

My view is that the panniers and racks might be worth a bit more than Pete's suggesting but the tank bag and tail roll less - but that's just my view ... and it all depends on condition and how desperate buyer and seller happen to be.

Baglux aren't necessarily cheap but they are brilliant pieces of kit and I'd recommend one.Fuel filling can be awkeard with conventional bags - but with the Baglux you just tilt it up.

Famsa are very good - the base has a cut-out for the filler cap. Got one on the Fut. They also do one for the Falco.

PS Winding Roads are very good to deal with - ever so helpful.

Hi Ya, I have the genuine Aprilia stuff and I like it. Easy to put on and off (once you've fitted the racks) , nice and secure too. I'll certainly be looking for more than £80 when /If I come to sell mine :smt002

Its only $100 US for the rack and panniers, but its the damn shipping thats bumping the price up - its more likely to be in the £120 region but I thought I would err on the side of caution
