I've changed my gearing from stock (16F 41R) to 15F 42R. I was abit worried I would loose some mpg on my motorway commute. First figures in - 48mpg. 5k in top has dropped from around 80 to 75 (I think). But is the speedo accurate now? I was getting about 50mpg before, so I'm happy

Dont worry about the speedo - its not affected by gearing (pickup is of the back wheel).

Didn't notice any difference in MPG when I did mine. I know the motors spinning faster so should burn more but to counter that, its not working so hard at a given speed so burns less

And don't forget one of the best side effects of the lowered gearing

Oh, and by the way, have changed to a 520 chain. That's what the racers use. Before you tell me it will snap, my brother had a Gixer thou with 150hp which used this type of chain. He got over 10k miles out of it. It'll get a real work out at Anglesea on sunday, so we'll see if it can take the Falco power...

i think we have discussed this a lot in the past and i think the concensus was stick with standard size

Let's see. Mille racers would use a 520. It won't snap (famous last words). It might stretch too quickly to be practical.

Slightly off topic but why do people put the 520 on the Falco? What's wrong with the 525?

Doubt it - though I've never tried one and am very unlikely to.

My understanding is there is a significant weight saving, but I don't know how much. I'll let you know how it goes, but I think it would be difficult to feel the difference when riding. A 520 chain is an option for the Mille on the B&C Express website, so it's clearly a reasonable option. I probably wouldn't have bothered unless my brother had a chain in his garage he didn't need any more.
