Wiring mod, what's the score?

I have read several things about this wiring mod, that everyone does (not the derestriction), what's it for? I read it on the apriliaforum, is this just for the states or every Falco?

Thanks in advance for answering what's probably a dumb question

I keep mine on an optimate though

I think the "wiring mod" reduces the resistance and hence voltage drop, of the charging circuit.
The battery unless well charged can struggle, the first sign of which is the "Dash Reset".

I've not done the mod but since replacing the battery, about 4 years ago and regularly using an optimate, I've not had any problems. (touch wood!)

Cool, I'll keep mine on optimate then, wiring scares me :smt119

Of course this won't be till I pick the new bike up at the weekend :smt003

mmmm .... recently had a bit of an argument on AF1 about this - daring to suggest that this is not something to be done as a matter of course and that it can actually be a bad thing to do on some bikes (leading to overcharging).

Keep your connectors (electrically) clean and the likelihood is you'll be fine.
Ride it frequently and the optimate won't be that often either

blimey.. I was 25 when i passed me car test and got one.. Only did that because a couple of little people started living in the house.. I'm still not 100% certain how that happened.. But we get free milk deliveries and never have a problem when the posts on strike.. :smt001

Agree with all the optimate comments, but for a few years I had the bike in a shed without power so I had a some non starts and resets and did the wiring mod. This did improve things, but I put power into the shed shortly afterwards and it's always on the optimate now.

OK, I have to chime in against the consensus here....! I did the wire mod (both the charging mod and the dashboard mod) and it's transformed the bike totally from a pig to start unless continually drip fed from an optimate or the like, to the way it should have been designed in the beginning - able to sit for a couple of weeks in the cold and still start nice and briskly, no problems. Optimate is all well and good, but if you don't have a garage with a convenient power point, or are away doing a nice long trip across Europe, they're not much help.

Maybe the OEM wiring quality varies from bike to bike, but mor mine at least, from new before the mod it was a right pain!
