Ok we all know the Falco sidestand ain't the best... and people replace them with aftermarket ones... but I've had a quick search on eBay and found this Click me.

Has anyone gone down this route? Does the sidestand switch still work?

Most opt for an alternative sidestand.

Mine is off a VTR I think and works perfectly well.

Yeah I'm keen to do this mod after I pickup the bike... so its either something like this or a new sidestand, but one thats a direct bolt on would be nice ;)

I've used a tilter plate and they're OK, but not great, the stand's made of camembert and more tilt made it easier to bend when the gorila on the ferry to Ireland ratchetd it down

Still for no money (if if doesn't go too high) it might be worth a punt 'till you get a better replacement.

USA ones are best

usa spec or appropriate fireblade model or bubseywoo one off ebay

those are easiest to fit (remember Mr angle grinder will need to play with the usa one)

I used to use the firestorm derived one.... was ok :)

I also use the "bubseywoo" one off ebay and it is fine and easy to fit.

Not the best of pics in the advert but I think that's probably a "Perky's" tilter plate.

I've heard mixed reports - they tip the bike over further but as they don't lengthen the sidestand they don't make it much more stable .... it tips over the other way.
It also doesn't make the stand any stronger ... and remember, the stand is made of cheese.

Probably better to go for:

• A USA market stand and bracket (bracket needs to be modified to fit)
  
  Fireblade stand - apparently bolts straight on ... but I'm not sure how good as I've not seen this mod
  
  One of the Ebay Bubseywoo things (by accounts they've been improved (some of the early ones had welds that failed)
  
  or Gixer stand ... which takes a bit of work but is excellent.

The main problems with the original stand are:

• It's fairly weak
  It stands the bike too upright
  it's footprint is too narrow (ie it touches down too close to the axis of the bike)

I have a perky's stand adapter....And before i go on, the one you have linked to us does not have a spring pin welded on so it is usless unless you are good with a welder.

As for perkys adapter. I had to cut my stand and fit a length of tube to extend it by 2 inches. It has been fine in all the time i was using it

I used a perkys tilter for a while, much better than the OE but it still did not fill me with confidence. I found it more prone to wobbling when on the stand and,because of the altered angles, the foot of the sidestand was no longer flat to the floor but it was only its heel that made contact. On a hot day this would easily sink into the tar becaus the weight was being concentrated on such a small area. As Andy the Holic says...VTR is the way to go!

I also used the tilter for a while. It is a slight improvement but still does not inspire confidence. I went the VTR route. Very easy swop with only a minor job to do to drill a small hole to relocate the cut out switch pin.

Note - it must be the VTR 1000 not the VTR SP1/2. These buggers are exactly the same as the Falco stand - I made that mistake and it's still under the workbench in the garage.

Yep that's the fella. You'll need to dis-assemble the leg and fit it to the Falco bracket cos the holes in the VTS bracket are slighty out of line .

Easy job though.

Just got an email back from the guy.

It is a plate that fits between frame and existing mount and not a direct replacement as i first thought.

Any particular year of Firestorm or will any do?

Got a couple on watch on fleabay because mine is pathetic.

I've heard tell the Gixxer 750 sidestand fits straight in too. Is that true? Is it any better/worse than the VTR?
