New to Falco land

#1 Post by arizonabay » Mon Mar 22, 2010 6:13 pm

Hi fellas,

Picked up my 04 Falco on Saturday there after looking for one on and off for awhile now. Never owned one before and after a wee spin yesterday I am totally sold on them.

I was a little worried about comfort as I am 6ft 4in but it seems to be all right. I do however intend to get a jack up kit from BikeFarm MV to raise the seat a little. Has anyone got any advice about these guys and also about raising the rear 35mm?

Well that’s my introduction and first question (probably of many).

Cheers

Welcome:

Before buying a jack up kit I'd advise you to investigate an alternative rear shock that includes ride height adjustment. There are a couple of other alternatives and the standard shock is considered poor and an area where costs were being cut. The Falco responds well to raising the rear ride height and I have my RSVR sourced Ohlins with its ride height set to it's maximum.

Enjoy!

Welcome Arizonabay, i'm sure you'll love the Falco.
As for the ride height, check the rear shock first, as has already been suggested.

Thanks.

I will look into the shock option. Any suggestions for a suitable replacement?

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

having digested the above - a few thoughts for you

unless you are a god, think bang for buck

for most of us, myself included, i reckon a few quid - like less than 50 will get you a white spring mille shock

a 100 quid will get it serviced and set up for your weight etc

that would do most of us well :)

says he with the WP.....

Hi all,

Welcome to the "fold," arizonabay :smt006 Enjoy the experience of the falco, as for the ride height, I am 6'3" and have an Hyperpro shock fitted. No problem so far, I may fit the mille dog + bone I have from the standard falco one's...

Going to a chap in Darlington soon to get my suspension set correctly. He has a dyno as well, so may fit my SL Carbon Chip, even though I have a pcIII on her :smt002

Depends how long he has free for mine :smt003

Enjoy, and feel free to ask away, there are guys on here who will answer your questions before you have finished typing :smt002
My warranty is the clear/smoked tail lights around the corner!!

Welcome to the site mate, you've made a great choice of bike, I hope you enjoy it anything like as much as I have mine.
As everybody else has already said, I would look at a shock with ride heght adjustment first. White spring Mille Shock will fit the Falco linkages, later Yellow spring Mille shocks need the Mille linkages.
Also note that the oiriginal side stand is a bit too straight up on the Falco as standard, so it does leave it prone to tipping over. If you lift it up that much via ride height adjustment it will be no use at all. There are a number of options covered on here that have all been fitted and tested.

Good luck with the bike I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Thanks all, very useful advise - I intent to go for the shock option.

Been crawing over eBay and calling breakers but still cannot find the white spring mille shock (cannot afford a new one).

Are these things that rare or am I looking in the wrong place?

Also, how much additional height with the shock give me?

Cheers

Hello and welcome.

White spring shocks are quite old now so they may be getting harder to find.

Keep your options open - the yellow spring sachs with linkages is probably the easiest to fit (no concerns over the schraeder valve clearance) or you may be lucky enough to find a MilleR ohlins plus linkages at a good price (I did).
