Hi all, couple of people selling Eprom chips on ebay at the moment,1 seller only 15 quid, 5 available witch sounds cheap.so are they a worthy upgrade, description claims better bottom end.Allways wonder if these chips are such a great improvement why the manufactuer didn't use that mapping in the first place, makes me think there's a down side!

You have to remember that Aprilia have to map their bikes to get through both emmision tests and noise tests right across the world

So their map is a good compromise between performance, economy and emmisions.

The aftermarket chips are primarily aimed at performance whist using the extra gained from free flowing airfilters and race cans to get the best from the engine.

I used the official Aprilia SL chip and it was superb when used with the SL carbon cans and a renegade airkit.

I'm sure there will be more members able to give you their experience on the variouys chips available, personally I go for one that you know is proven to work well with your set up (filter / exhaust combination)

Hi there

You could try the man calling himself Dr Rossi ( Alian ) on rsvzone forum ....he makes and sell chips on there for rsvr's and Falco and they all rave about him ........i have one to fit to my bike as well but am away working at the moment ..... :smt011 He makes them so they work with a rene airbox sold as well on there by HOOKED (craig ) and some open end cans ..........fingers crossed it should be a good buy ....... :smt017 :smt003

RSVZONE.COM .....WORTH A LOOK FOR DEAS .......EVEN IF THEY ARE ON A LESSER BIKE !!! ....... :smt005

bought and fitted one of the £15 chips off ebay, have to say a definite improvement, very torquey and alot smoother below 3 grand, worth 15 quid. although i'm only comparing it to standard, havent tried any others as yet.

Cheers chaps, taken the plunge and got the epron chip (13 quid).Going for 15 tooth sprocket too.So hopefulley for the huge outlay of 28 pounds, hopefully make the bottom end a bit more tracktable. which i feel is lacking a bit at low town speeds.Must get that sidestand sorted as well!.

no there really handy, i think theres a guide on how to do it somewhere, but when i done mine i simply removed seat unit rider and pillion, disconnect battery, you will see the ecu under a rubber flap behind the battery. remove the rubber cover, disconnect the plugs fom the battery side, i think 3 in total then you should be able to lift ecu and bring it out the storage compartment. place ecu on bench, 4 screws round the side i think and the top comes off easy, you should be able to see the chip you want to replace, only one that size, there is a notch in the chip to one side, take note what side, there may be some type of glue or gum over the standard chip so remove that, then gently lift or pry the chip, go easy as the little legs would break easily, now put new chip in remembering the notch goes to the correct side, and reassemble! connect battery and have fun!!!

Make sure you are grounded and avoid touching the pins on the chip.
Make sure you get the chip the right way round (this is where a good number go wrong and kill the chip)
If it comes on a daughter board (some do), make sure you fit that too.

Nothing particularly difficult.
