So I'm not getting rid of the Falco after all
2 weeks off the bike and back on it again and I love it!!
A weekend in the cotswolds helped remind me why it's just a great bike and mines completely standard. I have also not had one mechanical problem in 3000 miles (well there was a potential slave cylinder problem but the seal that was recommended on here sorted that out, thanks for that).
Yes the commute still aint great but there are positives about the bike for commuting (narrow, quick, flickable), oh and not forgetting the vanity side of things - I've never had a bike that gets more attention from fellow motorcyclists at the lights. Now I'm not vain but that does feel good!
In fact impending fatherhood is making me a better rider I think, definitley thinking about consequences more, not to say that I didn't before though, just more heightened awareness now.
If I could afford it I'd probably need to buy 6 bikes for each eventuality.
By the way, one of my mirrors is loose. If I ride quicker than 70 or accelerate rapidly it moves in and all I can see is my bike jacket. Any ideas on how to fix this? It used to happen on my CG125 and all was required was to tighten a nut - not that blisteringly quick acceleration caused the mirror problem on the CG mind...

Same solution - tighten the nut underneath.sfoley1 wrote: By the way, one of my mirrors is loose. If I ride quicker than 70 or accelerate rapidly it moves in and all I can see is my bike jacket. I left mine slack enough to fold the mirrors for clearance in my garage but tight enough so they don't move until about 105MPH.

Glad you're loving it so much.sfoley1 wrote:

Never really noticed this attention grabbing thing that a lot of other Falco riders mention but maybe I don't bump into so many other bikers that often. If it's not that, I don't really care - I love mine too and that's what really matters.
As for the mirror - tighten the nut. Look inside the fairing directly underneath the mirror and you'll see it.

I've had mine up for sale recently, due to having a bit of spare cash come along, so thought about trading up to a newer R1 / Fireblade, but the insurance claim I am waiting on is now looking like being worth pursuing.
So I am having to hang on to her for a bit. Been using it for work again recently and loving it. B road overtaking in a 50mph limit (for cars)
is so much fun and so easy. Roll on in 3rd or 4th, bit more gas, ROAR, change gear. I'm not sure an IL4 could be a lot quicker unless using a gear lower and a lot more revs.
I wish I could keep the Falco AND buy an '04 R1....

Fun!
Hi all,
Yes, when I pull up at lights alot of guys wonder what my bike is, due to the mille swingarm, they think it's a rsv
Then there is the "grunt," a guy on a gixer was following me, I was in 4th, and overtook a few cars. When we got to the tea shop, he said your bike sounds really fruity and aggressive! Also, he said he had to drop down two gears to catch my rolling acceleration
Fun, doesn't sum up what bike we have
Hope you keep yours fella....

Glad you're sticking with it Steve!
I'm sure you won't regret it.
In more than 5 years and around 24K miles with mine the only problems I have had are a rear brake light switch which failed due to me not looking after it when using the bike in winter, (It is low down and is always going to pick up a load of crap).
The only other thing with mine was a the side stand switch, (mine is a 2001 which still had the early plastic pin), which finally failed in the last 12 months.
It is still by far the most reliable bike I have ever had.
Mine is here to stay until I pack it in.
