Benefits of 15 tooth front sproket?

I'm normally a fan of lowering the gearing on bikes, not that the Falco is short of grunt! Just wondering if there are any other benefits to a 15 T front sproket other than acceleration?

Much easier to bimble around in traffic

As Tweaker says low spead traffic filtering is definitely easier. Also if you cruise 70 - 80 mph mark then the motor is getting up towards the sweet spot and more flexible. If you are doing a track day then I'm pretty sure the bike'd be a second or two quicker round most tracks.
I ran that ratio for a while when doing a lot of commuting into Leicester but have put it back to the standard one as I like the 'overdrive' option that provides.

you will find that over exuberent overtakes in second will have the front wheel in the air, and will readilly lift the front in third over a bumpy road yeaaa haa

What everybody else says.
Better at low speed in traffic, better accelleration, plus I find I actually use 6th a lot more now! Was too much of an overdrive before.
Can still get 40plus mpg quite easilly and on steadier runs have got high 40s, so don't reckon the economy has suffered, possibly even a bit better.
In my view it's an excellent mod. Try it!
P.S. Scorpio24v is spot on with the yeaaa haa

I also changed over and wish I had done it earlier, the front wants to lift in 2nd and does not feel like a choir in traffic

Thanks. Mmmmm. I like the idea of increased acceleration and wheeley popping second gear
However, I use the bike for a long commute, so overdrive is very useful and a lot of the time I'll be riding with economy in mind. I must admit though that the motorway is often clogged up, so the overdrive option doesn't come into play.

The 15T only cost me £15 a few years ago, so well worth testing.
As for 6th, I only pop it in once I've reach 70+mph, it was 80+ with the 16T

That was part of my point, you can actually use 6th much more often, without going way over the limit, so makes long commutes better.

Never thought you were doing that Dave!
Just agreeing with your figures.

And I'm often going into 6th at about 60 with the 16T, unless I'm overtaking or giving it one. Must be all those years on the Guzzi!

I think mine would shake itself to bits at that speed! 90mph = 5k rpm in top - I usually slip into 6th around the 75 mark. (Standard gearing)

Mine pulls fine between three and four thousand if gentle on the gass.

Mine also. In the derestricted roads I tend to stay in 5th which puts the revs nicely in the 5-6K range which is great for overtakes and fuel consumption. However, a change down into fourth makes for ballistic overtakes and I`m grateful for the seat hump. Problem with 6th is the bike is going at 90ish in the "sweet spot" and is effortless. In our over populated and policed roads this can mean a whole world of trouble.
