Oh Dear! Gravity wins again...

#1 Post by dogblue » Sun Sep 20, 2009 1:00 pm

After only two months of Falco ownership I've gone and dropped it trying to put it on the paddock stand...t*t! The frustrating thing was that it went down in slow motion with me desperately clinging on to the back trying to keep it upright. My three year old son asked me why I was laying the bike down instead of washing it...I had to bite my tongue hard. :smt013

Getting to the point, does anyone know the best place to get hold of a second hand RHS clip-on and front brake lever? I've had a butchers on e-bay and all I could find were brand new clip-ons from the states for more cash than I have spare. Any good tips for breakers or know if anyone here may have the items in question?

Any advice will go some way to making me feel less of a tw*t than I do at the moment. :smt001

Can't help you with the levers I'm afraid, but maybe get an Abba stand?
I got mine because I was scared doing the exact same thing. Not cheap, but easy to use.

Just a thought...

An ABBA stand is now very high on my list of priority purchases. :smt001 Is it as easy to use as it looks?

With any luck I'll be able to pick up a clip-on and lever for a resonable price and spend the rest on a stand to keep the bl*ody thing upright!

Yup, very easy. There's a short vid here: http://www.abbastands.co.uk/product_details.asp?id=1

It also allows you to work on the rear shock and the forks (if you have a car jack or somebody to support the rear).

If it makes you feel any better I've dropped my CB500 twice in the garage in the past 2 years and last week dropped a suit case on it from the rafters in the garage and dinted the tank and cracked the Givi screen :smt009 Good job I like bikes that look used.

Cheers for the replies guys. Top work on those e-bay links joecrx, I didn't see those clip-ons at all when I looked. They're considerably less expensive than the ones I found. I'm just about to order that lever as well, it's all staring to get expensive what with the Abba stand as well. Best incentive not to drop it again eh!

Reggie, you sound like a man who has about as much luck as me :smt003 ! I rarely go into the garage without drawing blood, causing damage to myself or setting fire to something.

The genuine Brembo levers can be bought from Ducati dealers for about 20 quid, thats what I did. (Riders in Bristol)

Right, first off apologies if I should have started another thread in the technical section but as I was already here...

I took the plunge and bought the clip-ons and lever from e-bay (that joecrx very kindly pointed me towards) to replace the neatly snapped originals, and an Abba stand (goodbye beer tokens!). I was planning to put the bars above the yoke as they look a fair bit lower than the originals.

After having a good look I can't see how the fluid reservoirs are going to fit on the new clip-ons. Has anyone else done this sort of mod that can tell me how to fix the reservoir brackets to after market bars? And if there are any issues wth locating pins/tabs etc?

I'm also still interested in a RH clip-on if anyone has one spare... :smt002

there should be plenty of room for fluid res, and should be easy enought to fit to top of yokes :smt002

It's not the space that I was worried about but how the brackets would bolt to the bar. As far as I can make out, the reservoir brackets bolt to the top of the OE clip-ons but the new bars don't appear to have any mounting points. I was unsure of how the reservoirs and their brackets would actually be attached?

mmmm those clipons look very nice Joe ... and a bit lower than standard too :smt023

Shame no 51mm versions for the Ohlins though ... was hoping to ditch the need for clipon shims at some point.

i know what you mean dogblue but if you look close at this p c, if you turn the clamp upside down you can fit them to the barr bolt , also ther will be lugs for the grips and switches most people drill a small hole to locate these , some just cut the lugs off , but make sure they are in the right positin for your ride style before you do , after saying that they might come with it all done as it is falco specific hope this helps

Cool, thanks for that Joe.

I was getting worried that I'd bitten off more than I could chew and that there would be more work involved than I expected. After your pointers though it doesn't look too bad after all. I'll rope in the old man so between us we should make a decent fist of it!

Thanks again for all the tips mate :smt023

when you turn them round youl need to put the left one on the right , if you know what i mean :smt001 so bolts are on top, you might have to bend the res clip a wee bit , or if you are realy good self tap an 8mm thread where you want them on the bar :smt002

let us know how you get on were here to help :smt002
pics would be good :smt023
