Hi, just ridden 30miles home with my left foot resting on the LH footrest bracket and the bike jammed in 3rd, as the bloody footrest snapped off as I changed from 1st to 2nd. Couldn't find the damn thing anywhere, but it's scrap as the threaded part is still in the hanger. Most odd as it's never been dropped on the left side?

Looking at the parts diagram, I think I'm gonna need the footrest, gear lever pin, bolt and spacer/washer.

If anyones got a complete LHS footrest assembly they want rid off I'll buy the whole thing, just want to get it back on the road ASAP as it's been off for the last 2 weeks waiting for a fuel pump gasket, which finally turned up last week.

So it's back to the reliable old VFR again for me.

Can't help you with a footrest, I'm afraid, but intrigued to note that your 'other' bike is a VFR. I'm in a similar situation - my VFR is a 21 year old FJ. Which model is yours?

Seems very strange that should fail unless it's taken a fair blow at some time.

My VFR is a 1998 FV model, I used to courier on it, and for around 6 months the speedo didn't work, but I reckon she must be over 100,000 miles by now. Love it to bits, if all else fails in life, you know you can rely on a VFR, I'm never going to part with it.
By the way, got the Ohlnis set up on the Falco now, and it's superb, makes a massive difference. Well worth getting it re-valved at Reactive Suspension, only trouble is, I want to get the forks done too now! Best start saving.

Yes, I can't envisage ever getting rid of my VFR, in the same way I can't ever imagine getting rid of the Falco. It's the old 'comfy slipper' syndrome, I think (the VFR that is, not the Falco...!) 20 years ago I bought an FK, used it for long distance commuting and put 75,000 miles on it in 6 years. When I sold it on the motor still felt like new.

Glad you're liking the Ohlins, they really are a quality piece of kit. What did Reactive do to the valving, as a matter of interest? And you're right. Once the rear suspension is so good, it shows up defects in the forks. I had Race Tech Gold valves fitted to my Showas, and that was definitely a good move. I've heard that Ohlins internals for the Showas are the hot tip, though...

Hi, not sure what he did to re-valve the shock, but Gareth did say he'd spec'd it similar to the Ohlins shock that is available for the Falco. He quoted around £250 to fully sort the Showas inc. new springs, reckon that's the way to go now, as the offside fork seals started weeping a bit(rather like my bank balance since buying the Falco!) so it'd be a shame not to get them upgraded whilst they're out. Or as funds are short I might just sort the seal and buy some more tyres as the Pirelli's are shagged.

Hi Paganman, yes - my bank balance has taken a bit of a hammering with Falco ownership. But it's worth it...

I've had the forks re-sprung and re-valved (Hyperpro progressive springs and the Gold valve kit), and it's made a big difference. Much less harsh and bags of feedback. But if funds are limited, then fork seals and tyres would seem the first things to fix. Tempting to get the whole lot done once the forks are out, though...
