Falco to Tuono

Well I am finally coming to the conclusion that I prefer the upright 'street fighter' riding position. Probably age related.

Now. Before I sell the otherwise excellent Falco and go Tuono hunting which will probably cost an extra £1500, I noticed that not all the Falcos around here have remained standard. In fact I spotted at least one that looks Tuono-esque.

Can anyone advise on whats involved and an estimated cost of conversion? I guess I would need a top yoke, bars and various control cables of longer length. But I am also concerned about bar/fairing clearance - will I need to replace the fairing as well or is there a known mod that will sort it? Will a Tuono fairing fit?

Cheers
Andy

This is one option, but it ain't cheap if you buy all the bits here, but at least it lets you look at one way to do it.

Not cheap with the polished aluminium panels but does look good.

Some of these bits crop up occasionally on eBay and other people have gone for a mix and match approach, with some "Falco Fighter" bits and some home made or modified.
Not done it myself, but somebody should be along soon with more info..

I think you can fit some Gilles Variobars/bar risers without making your Falco into a Tuono, I think there's a bit of a mod required to the screen/fairing area for clearance of the bars, and new longer hoses/cables. Personally (and no offence to anyone who has done different) I prefer the Falco's styling to the Falcuono/Streefighter styling

Try a search for variobars or Falcuono (I forget who dubbed their machine as Falcuono), should throw up a few possibilities

I used:
Tuono fairing
Mille headlight and subframe
RSV "comfort kit" handle bars and yoke (LSL?)
Tuono brake lines
Standard clutch line
Mille throttle cables (They are same as tuono - and longer than falco)

DO IT!!! you will never look back again - its so much more comfortable, and handles lovely with the bars

I bought all my bits cheap 2nd hand - cost me about 500 quid all together I guess

Here's mine - Its all been tidied up now - much happier now

Exactly. It's so much fun (not on the track, though).

I fitted:
- Convertibars
- front from Falco Fighter kit (hen's teeth)
- Tuono brake hoses
- miscelaneuyues :smt003

Regarding styling, just look here.

PS tommy, your pics don't show up on my screen. Is it me?

Yes!

Thats the look and feel I'm after. I like the idea of the Tuono but to my mind its a lot uglier than the falco and to buy one in equivalent condition as my falco would be about £3500 as apposed to the £xxxx I paid.

I'll start looking for a tuono fairing then...

Buy a quality hacksaw for a tenner and cut your Falco fairing down to fit the higher bars. Works as well as the Tuono fairing but looks a whole lot better.

Brilliant in almost every way except that I would want to be able return the falco to standard. I have commitment issues...

I think there's a Falco front fairing on ebay at the moment, might fit the bill.

Sabestian - Looks good.

I'm 4 days in to my commute on my new Falco. I love it but my right shoulder and wrists are giving me a bit of jip.

Problem is I'm a useless mechanic, I'm going to take your pics to my local garage and get that costed. I want to keep the twin exhausts though.

I would give it a little longer before you go rushing off to change it.

I had issues with my neck, shoulder and wrists at first but I am now regularly doing 300+ miles ride outs and the only real fatique I encounter is tiredness due to chucking it around the bends :smt001

My body has got used to the new riding position and things are a lot better.

It's fine on a road, motorway speeds but I have to commute 30 odd miles a day across London, some of it is nice and open but a lot of it is sub 20 mph filtering and traffic lights and that's when the wrists and shoulder ache. I think a fewer tooth sprocket would also be advisable for me. I'm forever changing between 1st and 2nd

Before you spoil a nice Falco by Tuonoising it (yeah - OK - some of you have done some nice jobs in doing this) try what Aladinsaneuk and others have done and put the clipons on above the top yoke. You might get enough of a change and still retain the lovely lines of the Falco by going down this route.
I'm sure Pete (Aladinsaneuk) will fill in the gaps on how he's done this.

I'm ordering some Tomaselli adjustables from a very helpful chap in Dorset. Biggest they have is 52mm but they can machine them out for my 53mm.

Just as well my parents live just up the road so I can check them out before I buy when I visit in a couple of weeks.

A303 and A354 here comes the Falco :smt003
