EFI and power loss issues

My Falco has caught the flashing EFI during running and power reduction issues, I've read through gavhowe's thread about his EFI problem and mine seem's to be simaler although there was no rain or moisture involved at all! One minute she's blating a long lovely, the next we have EFI flashing on the dash and a slight power reduction from 6000rpm onwards. I was on a long ride out and it continued for the rest of the ride, if I kept it gentle the temp reading comes back on but as soon as I opened it up same probs. That was all yesterday, so this morning I started it up and just got EFI flashing all the time, tried a couple of squirts of WD40 down the right air ram (often touted as a solution to these issues) but no joy
Any ideas of where to start with this one, or has anyone solved this issue? I'm going to check the plugs and leads, but as it fires up perfectly I doubt it's these.

My favourite: alarm with poor connection? Mine was giving me a proper headache.

Yup, get the alarm checked out. Mine went through a spell of losing power every time it hit 8000 revs. Cause was finaly traced to the alarm box mounting bolts being too tight.
Also has something similar to your described flashing EFI - that was traced to poor conection of alarm at bike battery after I fitted connectors for battery charger.

All sorted, once I had read that the bike has a built in diagnostic system!!!!!! I hooked the two wires together and fired it up, after a couple of minutes I got a fault code for the rear coil. Got the rear bodywork off and sure enough found a loose push connecter on the back of the coil......tightened it up and fault cured, running sweet again.
It's a good feeling when you fear the worst and it turns out to be something and nothing, what a clever little bike!

Sorry Olig I could have told you about the diagnostics..... just assumed you already knew.
Clever bike indeed - it would be cleverer still if it could just fix itself once it had diagnosed the problem

On the subject of alarms - were they fitted as standard?
Mines a 2001 fast black and I can't see any sign of it ever having had one.

were optional i believe - most stealers offered them i think, but as a part of the sales pack - ie, fitted pre collection, not by noale

Mine was fitted by the stealer prior to delivery, a necessary evil to get insurance at the time.
I've got a datatool 3 and not had any real issues (only failed to disarm once, but there's a manual override).
The wiring diag does show a point for an anti theft device, but dunno what the hell that might be.

So that's what's wrong with mine then....
I don't doubt that your slow black one is in fact much quicker than my fast red one. It's the colours that are quicker, not the bikes!!!!!
