Anyone taped up their headlight for MOT?

Hi Guys

Sorry to repeat this from another thread but my MOT re-test is looming. I've got a Euro headlight and the guy at the MOT centre advised me to use some black tape to stop the "kick up" from the dipped beam.

Being in and out of my garage all evening - neighbours must think I'm a weirdo - shining my beam on gable walls, garage doors etc, and am still not sure I've got it right!

I've put a couple of strips of black tape horizontally across the bottom of the lense and a couple to the (if you're standing facing the bike) left hand side, and this seems to be cancelling out the kick....I think!

Can anyone tell me if I'm doing this right...too much tape..too little...wrong place..

PS - this has got to work cos there's no way I'm forkin out for a new headlight!!!

Thanks

B

I taped mine up before I got the UK-spec light. I did not go as scientific as you, I just made sure that the extra bit of light sticking up on the right was blocked out. As it turned out, the tester applied another strip of tape during the test.

Didn't even know mine was EU spec until recently, it has gone through 4 MOTs whilst I have owned it and one before and none of the testers have ever noticed, then again I have never told them either, so they did not know to look for it!
If you just cover up the small triangular (ish) area, you should be OK.

Yep - tape them up to get through the MOT then get on to Aprilia to get them changed.

This thread tells you what you need to know about the problem.

Well the tape did the job, though the bugger at the MOT centre wasn't goin to pass me until I reminded him that my bike was now fit for purpose!

As for chasing this up with Aprilia - I bought the bike second hand. The dealer that the bike came into the country through is now no longer an aprilia dealer...so I think I'm beat!!
