My clutch has been slipping at high loads/rpm pretty much since I bought it but it was most noticable on the track this week (predictably). When I bought the bike the dealer put some new oil in of unknown spec.

I intend to change the oil to something known not to cause clutch probs (Rock semi-synth 15-50w maybe)and pull the clutch plates to rough up the steels a bit as mentioned in previous posts.

Is it a straight-forward job to get the plates out? Do I need any special kit or knowledge?

What year/colour scheme?

Usually a good indication of the fully/semi clutch slip issue that can affect earlier models.

I'd be tempted just to change the oil to a good semi synth 1st and see if that fixes it before buggering about with the plates.

Its a black one of 2000 vintage.

semi synth then - i use the putoline 15-50

I had the same problems a couple of weeks back with mine (black 2001) I'd put 15-50 semi in but the bike didn't like the oil 'Hi Rev' it was called, so I drained it all out put a new filter in, cleaned the clutch plates up and put in Rock Oil's Sigma Guardian 15-50 semi....it's been running sweet as a nut ever since.
