Sunday Freedom

#1 Post by andybev » Mon Apr 06, 2009 12:32 pm

This bike is really growing on me!

Managed to escape on sunday afternoon after my chores were done. Thought I'd head out for an hour as the sun was shining and headed to Derbyshire. After about 20 miles I was really getting into the groove and I just kept going until I found myself in Buxton, seemingly without any effort at all. Well from there it seemed a shame not to ride the cat and fiddle where the falco really did its thang, scuffing the sliders on my new boots. On the way back I gave it the berries on a quiet dual carriage way and jeysus! I won't say how fast I was going but it was enough to push the mirrors back against the fairing.
Its what its all about - some great roads and great scenery to the beat of the v twin sondtrack. Just hope I don't receive any nasty brown envelopes in the post this week.

Cheers
Andy

Hi there Andybev, I did the same run on Friday evening, Ashborn, Buxton and on to the 'Cat'.....took my baffel's out for a blast over the topps and left the bolts in the pub carpark dohhhh.....sounded great on the way home though! luckily non of our nice enforcement officers where around.

If you ever need a wingman on your Falco runs outs, feel free to drop us a message.

Cheers

Yep - the more the merrier mate.

The next time I'll probaly get the falco out will be for the meet-up in Newark on 19th if the weather stays good (Don't want to get it dirty).

Or just generally on dry weekends this year - fingers crossed for a good summer!

Just so you enjoyed last Sunday more, I was stuck in the car looking to buy another.
Seemed that all the bikes in the country were out, Except me.
And i'm working next sunday.
So roll on the 19th, i'll be at Newark, no matter what the weather.

My favourite roads... I do miss them. Stopping for a brew at the Cat and looking out over the moors to the Cheshire plain.. boo hoo!
Ian, glad to see you and your daughter got out and you have re-evaluated things. Good on yer!

Yep the view from the top really lifts the spirit. Feels like you've ridden 1000 miles to another country - well it does if you live on a crowded flood plain...

I didn't see the speed camera van - I hope it didn't see me either. I was late-ish in the day - forgot to change the clock on the dash - I was wondering why it was so quiet.

Did you get to ride the Via Gelia on the way back? Love that road too.

Not sure of it's number but it's the road from Newhaven (the A515 between Buxton and Ashbourne) and Cromford. If you've not done it it will complete a great circuit from Nottingham to Buxton, over the Cat and then over Mam Tor to Hathersage (or is it Shining Tor, can never remember). Oh happy days..

Yes, it's a wonderful stretch of road; I just wish it would carry on for longer. I remember the first time I rode it I thought I'd been transported to Glen Helen in the Isle of Man...

IBLE... you ever been? I think it's one of those villages from the Dark Ages that got left in a time warp. Been passing that sign for about 25 years and always wondered what could be up there...
Rode down the Via Gelia last year (on my way here actually) and the rain was so hard and the road flooded, it washed the grease out of my rear wheel bearing and caused a bearing collapse on the M1. Not a good start to a thousand mile journey!

I don't think I've ever ventured up there. I might have a look next time.

That road is often swept by streams when it rains but that sounds rough! How did you fix the bearing - did the AA have a spare one or did you do a 'Mondo Enduro' on the side of the road?

I managed to limp into Leicester looking for a garage. Came across Hein Gerrike, who were very helpful. Game me a big mug of tea while they rang for a mobile mechanic who came out, replaced the bearing and got me on the road after a couple of hours. I did buy some throw-over panniers as a "thank you" though. It's that bike thing again... a car garage probably wouldn't do that for you. Got piss-wet through again later in the day!
