Hi all, I have phoned a few dealers and no one has the crank locking 'bolt' in stock, part 240880,
so, can anyone who has one tell me the size,? and does it just press against something or does it actually locate into a hole on a gear or crank or whatever.
I figure i can use a normal bolt of the right thread size,
I need to change a coupe of shims and I need all the help available to keep the engine all timed correctly,

Not had to do this to the Falco yet but did have to make one up for a Rotax engined BMW in the past.

It was just a 50mm bolt which I machined to a point. This threaded into the casing and engaged with a groove on the crank. Simple.

Suggest you shine a torch into the hole and turn over the engine slowly by hand and see what is in there. Probably the same.

yes, seems a good plan, the bolt looks prety simple, its only £1.02 + vat, so rocket science, or high tec, it aint, Skinny

Just had my first go at valve shims on my 'crosser. Much less fidly than I thought it would be and I even managed to do the job without dropping any shims into the gearbox or sparkplug hole.

I thought putting it back together and getting the timing right would be a mare but I managed it first time without having to lock the crank in place. All i would say is take your time and just kep checking all your timing marks. then turn it over a couple of times by hand before reassembly just to make sure.

I know that's on a single cylinder without a bloody great frame rail in the way but i can't see it being a major problem on th falco.

I have always found a seized piston works very well,
works even better on a two stroke

One thing though.....


If you do use a locking bolt and remember to remove it before trying to start the engine don't forget to replace the bung like I did. My shed wall still has the oil stains !
