Weak Wrists

First time on this forum so hello everyone - I got my 2003 Falco 12 months ago, great bike but I have a problem. I broke both my wrists over the winter (no I didn't fall off the bike - both accidents were skiing but thats another story) which has left me having trouble with the standard bars on anything but a short ride.

Has anyone had any experience with higher bars? I've seen a few kits advertised (Helibars, Variobars etc) but I'm not sure if these work with the standard hoses/cables or whether they clash with the tank or fairing. Is there a make that you've tried or seen that you can recommend?

Afraid I can't help with your query but I'm sure you'll be inundated with advice shortly. :smt003

Hi Crispy and welcome.

No experience of using Variobars or Hellibars so not sure about the hoses ... but sure someone will be along to confirm.

Another cheaper option is to drop your yokes down your forks a few notches. As well as sharpening up the steering, you can then mount your clip-ons above the top yoke.
Obviously don't drop the yokes any more than you need to and satisfy yourself that the steering does not become too lively for you.

Again this is a mod I've not done myself but I know others have and they've been very happy with it.

suggest that you make tubigrip glove for each wrist - changing the bars is unlikely to help as I think this is injury related

also, do your physio exercises - I reckon that this is probably down to poor muscle/tendon tone - sorry :(

I fitted Helibars before I went to LeMans a few weeks ago.

Fitting was simple as, standard cabling was fine. The left hand switch gear ever so slightly touches the screen at full right hand lock - enough to switch the light from full beam to dipped :smt001

I shall be experimenting with the positioning of the switchgear to alleviate the problem. No issues with fouling anywhere else though. I could drop the helibar bar down the fork leg a little but want to keep the height gain.

All in all I'd recommend them highly. As you can tell from my username, my other bike is a Hornet which I've had for 5 years now - I'm more used to a sit up style of riding so the Helis are perfect for me.

First post for me too ! I had helibars professionally fitted to my 2002 falco, and they made a huge difference. The cables are rerouted (Can give detailed info if required). One thing to note, you will trap your thumbs on tank at full lock, left and right side so be aware when manoovering in tight places.

but only so I can correct your spelling.. it's manoeuvre. So I guess it should be manoeuvring ??

Sorry - not normally such a pedant but if we can't be bothered with the beautiful words what hope is there for the dross ?
