Hi all,

Just wondered if the phillips bulbs claim of 50% brighter is really better than they say? I know our lights are great, but, without fiddling with the HID setup, looks complicated and the question of not enough room issue...

Anyone fitted the phillips bulbs?

Philips also do "80% brighter" bulbs (power x-treme I think they're called).

The reviews I've seen suggest that the 80% brighter claim is, if anything, on the conservative side.

I'm planning to get a pair for my main-beams to compliment my HID dip.

Just searched and M&P have them at a good price ... assuming that's the price for a pair (I've only ever seen them in packs of 2)

I think you'll see it's the magic "up to...% brighter" vague claim being spouted. It may be "up to" whatever percent brighter (brighter than what exactly??) in a Philips laboratory, but it may only be 0.1% brighter, or even dimmer in the real world. Marketing bullshit, ignore it, any new bulb will be brighter as old bulbs will have aged and will always be less efficient.

No - I did see some independent review where these things were tested and the opinion of the tester was that they were at least 80% brighter.

There again, I've not seen them in action myself.

i think i read the same review andy..... and i have a pair to compliment the hid lol

i picked a pair up in halfords reduced box for 6 quid - presumably mislabelled..... i thgt that was worth a punt

I tried these bulbs on the Falco with fantastic results...NOT, I couldn't tell the difference to be honest, I didn't even get the "cool" blue look I thought I would.

Now having seen Tweakers HID conversion....that's a different matter. His dip beam was so bright, the full beam looked utterly feeble in comparison, quite a lot of ballast to fit in behind the fairing though!

Thankx for the advice, I might even check out this HID conversion when I go round to bigun's, when I go round to bigun's My new found friend who did our lens, may design a bespoke rear indicator for me

I currently have the Philips bulb fitted to my Falco. It's quite a bit brighter than the standard fit.
But it's not stopped me shelling out for a HID kit from autolamps-online.
Lot of money but it'll do the trick.
Incidentely, if you look around you shouldbe able to pick up the Philips kit for just under a tenner, but there is an Osram twin bulb H7 kit (+70%) for £15 instead of £29.
