I doing a 4-day tour of South West England starting on saturday, but im struggling to securely mount my rear saddlebag. Up to now I have used to for light items without the panniers attached so it was easy to bungee-strap it to the pannier supports.

Now however I have a 1-man tent and a sleeping bag in there so its a little heavier and larger... and the I cant seem to configure the bungee straps so that the entire thing is secure.

Has anybody else tried this setup... a softroll bag on the rear seat? Any suggestions?

In my experience (albeit limited) just use loads of bungees, and when you think you've got it as good as you can, stick another bungee on it.

I normally bungee down and then start bungeeing toward the front of the bike using the front footrest hangers and heel guards. I'm always more comfortable if the load is being pulled towards me rather than the rear of the bike.

Never lost anything yet, hence the extra bungees! The thought of losing something off the back at speed isn't one worth thinking about!

Probably worth getting a big mug of tea and taking your time to get it right

agreed, i borrowed a pair of oxford panniers for my juant around europe, did 140mph for a quick blat, steady as anything. did have a lot of strong bungees as well as std fittings

obviously you do need to lose that awful item, send it to me and i will let you have a lovely rear seat bag by return of post.....

have you got the under tray mounts for bungee clips? and have you noticed the two hole in each side of the rear grab rail?

use those crossed over with bungees

When I went to Wales on the Falco I had the tent on 1st as it was anchored by the underbody holders and then through the grab rails, everything else used this as a support. It all stayed attached even when it slid up the road on its side before flipping. use plenty of bungees and a cargo net or 2 .
BTW I have a velcro strap, which I got for my blackbird, it goes under the seat, if I can find it you can have it. It worked brilliantly on the 'bird, even when I got it up to 160.

I would recommend using a cargo net as well as bungies - it has more 'contact area'.

Also I adapted the 2 rear fairing bolts that lie behind the 2 'paddock bobbin' type bolts to turn them into bungie mounting points as well. You can never have too many.

Not ried it on the falco yet but I strapped mine onto the SV with just 2 bungees and it was rock solid. Just run one each sidefrom the grabrail through any handles/strap loops on the top of the bag and then down to either the footrest hanger or the bungee points. Just make sure they're both really tight and it won't go anywhere

Thanks all. I have it tied down so well now its part of the bike... all I needed were the right lenght/type of bungee cords. Off tomorrow and it looks like we timed it right with the weather too
