Headlight

#76 Post by scorpio24v » Sun Feb 24, 2008 8:29 pm

Thanks for the useful heads up on EU,UK headlights, mine is a UK one on a Bronze `05 Falco supplied by MCO. My guess is that some dealers hoped the problem wouldent be found out for three years, by which time warranty runs out, people dont work there any more, and dont give a toss anyway. A bit like Ford dealers.

Right then, I've typed out a letter to KJM. I'll check and double check that I do infact have an EU headlight and send it out to them.

Fingers crossed.

(edit) Checked it's the wrong one and posted the letter. What sort of time frame am I going to be looking at to get this sorted? Ideally want the Falco back on the road for April 26th.

Hi Chaps

The bike is in for her first MOT today and having just seen this thread checked my bike and yup - it looks like I have the EU headlight. :smt009

Has anyone had any joy having their light replaced by the supplying dealer if they are not the original purchaser and the bike is out of warranty?

I'm considering just getting a deflector sticker if it fails and ripping it off again immediately afterwards - anyone done this?

Cheers

That would pass it, but I've found a big difference riding at night with the proper headlight - I can actually see the side of the road! It would still be worth doing.

I'm the original purchaser, but this isn't something to do with the dealer - it's to do with the importer. My bike, the importer "believed" it to be a UK bike, and passed it onto the dealer as such. If the importer has a record of the bike being brought into the country (which they will have), they'll be able to tell whether the bike was "supposed" to be a UK machine. If it is, it'll get sorted. If not, it doesn't matter who bought the bike, becuase it always was an EU machine.

Mate my other bike is a 98 Hornet - riding this one in the dark is like riding in the day by comparison! My only concern is will it get through the MOT! I'll check the chassis label later and see what happens if it fails. Cheers for the reply.

My 2001 version has an EU version and has been through every test OK.
I only found out recently thanks to Andy's info. in this thread.
Having said that the beam always simply looked flat to me, (with no real kick up either side), just like my old Honda CBR, and I also thought it was pretty good at night.
Then again I don't get out too much, (not at night on the bike anyway!).

Well, the bike sailed through the MOT no problems despite my schoolboy error of mentioning the potential problem to the MOT tester beforehand. Happy days!

I need a Euro spec headlight for Falco

#84 Post by Falcomille » Sat Mar 29, 2008 3:32 pm

I've just stuck a classified ad in, so forgive the duplication. If anyone has a Euro spec headlight gathering dust, I'm in the market for one as I'm moving the bike to the South of France.
If you can PM me I'll get back to you SAP.
Mines a 2002 spec UK machine. My headlamp was damaged in an "off" but it's glued up OK and passes MOT's.
Also, if you can get a price for shipment to France I'll be grateful.

Big thumbs up to KJM Superbikes in Wigan! A manager rang me yesterday to inform me that a UK light will be sent out to me today for me to fit myself, when I get it I can post the EU light back to them.

He was very apologetic about the fact it was the wrong light and for the fact it had taken a couple of weeks to get back to me (he was on holiday) and said if there are any other problems, don't hesitate to ring him about them.

So the fairing's off the bike ready for it's new light and the HID kit to go into it, plus the new indicators I've got planned with a bit of LED magic. Hopefully they'll have chosen one of the more reliable couriers rather than Royal Snail so it'll be here tomorrow.

Got it on Fraday last week, Royal Snail took their time, but at least it got to me. I've sent mine back so all I need to do now is re-build the thing, get it through it's MoT, tax it and wait for it to get above 12*C and stop hailing so I can go out and ride it at long last.

I've got an offer for those stuck with the continental headlight.

I have a spare UK headlight in as new shape and I'd like to exchange it for your Euro spec one providing it's in a very good shape too.

I post mine to you, you fit mine, then send yours to me. Simple.

Drop me a PM if interested.
