Just bought myself a nice shiny blue Falco and loving every minute (at least I would be if it would stop piggin raining).

Anyway after scanning other inferior owners sites I have managed to gather that there is some type of derstriction mod. Now what I'm wondering is weather this just for certain countries and doesn't apply to UK bikes. Also, if it is across the board then what do I need to check to see if the mod has been done?

I have also noticed from scanning through some old receipts that came with it, it has had a K+N air filter fitted. Now I know that in the days of carbs you probably need to do a bit of rejetting to stop it running lean but I am wondering if the fuel injection woudl be able to compensate for it without any modification. If not what sort of mod is required and again some pointers as to weather the required mod has already been carried out.

I think thats about it for now but if anyone has any handy hints they will always be most welcome.

Now if you'll excuse me I am off back out to the garage to admire my new purchase and fiddle with stuff.

Derestricting fortunatly is pretty easy, basically clip a wire on the ECU (changes the map) and remove the plug from the airbox, quick guide for it can be found at http://www.geocities.com/sl_mille/derestrict.html

As for the k&n, i ran mine de-ristricted with the k&n and it ran fine, might be a bit lean if the bikes restricted though but cant say for sure as i deresricted mine as soon as it was run in. Can happily recommend a 15 tooth front sprocket if you run standard cans makes life a fair bit easier around town, went back to 16t with the renegade cans and airbox as it got a bit flighty :smt004

Oh and if it says Metzeler Mez3 on your tyres, get rid of them as soon as you can those things are evil, i have tried BT020, Sportec m-1's currently have fitted diablo's which are by far my favorite and next time i'll probably try the conti road attacks as they seem to be getting a good name by what i have read on here.

Check out this site for some handy info on derestriction:

Others are better informed about airbox mods, but basically most of us have either the Renegade Airbox or the Evoluzione Airbox. There are some home jobbies around. Check out http://www.apriliafalco.info/ and http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/foru ... y.php?f=60 for more info

Welcome back_marker,

I'm sure you won't be for long now your on a Falco. Front runner maybe?

Give it time......

If you have the standard pipes I think you'll not be too far out with just an alternative filter.

Enjoy.

Hi Back_marker and welcome aboard.

Given the colour (clearly the fastest) :smt002 and location I'm jumping to the conclusion that you bought your bike from Gary.

I'll have a guinness in celebration.

Now get your best 0% credit card ready for a caning

Forget all the bike-tech waffle, where are you based? I'm in Andover (Bendover), so I'm guessing you're not too far away? Come over here and see how it should be done :smt003

Welcome mate. Get your credit card out cos this lot will spend your dosh faster than you can earn it. Enjoy the bike -great choice - but then we're all biased.

Yup, I'm in Tidworth (Perham Down if you want to be picky) and I'd love to "come and see how it should be done" but due to this stupid wet stuff falling from the sky I sadly can't.

I would like to take this opportunity to point out that I am not just a fair weather rider but due to the fact that I am only just getting over a broken leg and my physio would throw a track if she knew i was going anywhere near a bike let alone in the rain, I think a little caution is entirely justified. And apart from that it's my new bike for heaven's sake - I can't ride it in the rain :smt107

As for the credit card, yes it's very tempting but I think I will be able to keep it under control if I can get my hands on a cheap set of 'zorsts, something in the ear bleedingly loud genre should do the trick :smt003

you found the site then Steve.

Falopops was right, he's got mine.

According to the receipts, it already has a 15t sprocket on.

You'll all be relieved to know that for once a newbie won't be asking about the sidestand replacement, cos it's already done :smt003

I haven't sold the silencers yet, but if I were you I'd run it on the standard ones for a bit and see what yoyu think (I perferred them). I forgot to say that I had a mille yellow spring shock on but put the standard one back to sell, which being as you much weight about half my weight should be ok (unfortunately the mille shock is spoken for - its off to Australia)

Thats Ok, after my old SV the standard one is fine anyway.

Still think it needs cans though - it's sacrilege to run any twin with baffles in :smt077
