I just fell for the "missing" LH spacer trick again

Am I right to believe that although the diagrams show a plain spacer on the LHS when viewed from the saddle it is not actually a loose item like the RH spacer is?

Whenever I remove the front wheel I forget this and start looking for the "missing" spacer. Doh!!

I have done a search of the site and I'm not the first and perhaps to lessen the likelyhood that others will fall into this trap we could confirm this anomoly and the mods could post a sticky for future info.

There is NO spacer on the l/h front spindle.
The spindle slides into fork leg so far and acts as the spacer.

I did the opposite: removed the rear and forgot to secure the spacer (and lost it). So: one on the front, two on the back.

That was me what did that too.

.... as it's even got Mellow to post up again I guess I'd better.

(could also move it to the technical forum if I felt like it .... but I guess it is Falco specific .... at least I'm not certain that the other Aprilias are the same - bet they are though )

Yeah, the Futura owners are easily confused so they only put one side on the swinger to make life simpler for them.

Even though i knew of this sticky, I still spend a good 15 minutes on my hands and knees today looking for the ghost spacer

Must be a hang over from other bikes as the Falco is the only one I know of with just 1 front spacer, all my other bikes had 2 front and rear.

You know what, i just did this, and almost started my own topic about it.


Looked at the maunal from martinpoll, saw a spacer in the diagram. I then realised i didnt have a spacer for the lhs disk (from saddle) and began to panic.

Glad i remember seeing this and was able to refer to it!

I bought a paddock stand set from ghostbikes, the rear is fine but the front bent inwards on both sides. the plates which hold the pins were now covering the axle hole at both sides, resulting in me having a nice model of a falco in the garage until i got fed up of looking at it in bits and decided to file away at the metal sheet until i could get the axle in. 7 hours later (no shit) i was able to put the axle in and lower her to the floor. this is when i realised no left spacer!

need to go down and put the axle in all the way, tighten it up and do the pinch bolts. think i will have problems tightening the axle nut and pinch bolts while there is weight on the front wheel?

According to the manual there is a convoluted toqueing sequence involving tightening then loosening then retightening these bolts and you need the wheel on the ground to apply the bakes a few times so I wouldn't have thought it matters.

Bloody hell I'm back on this thread again.

How far in does the front spindle have to go in to the left hand fork? I'd previously put it flush with the hole, however I am having to change the front tyre now due to odd wear pattern on the current tyre. Wondering if I haven't pushed the spindle in far enough previously? I'll post a pic up later when I'm not on my phone.
