Oil pressure light

#1 Post by del_tl1000r » Fri Jun 14, 2024 3:20 pm

I've just noticed that the oil pressure light doesn't come on when I switch on the ignition. I don't know if it's been like that since I bought it or if it's just happened. I'm guessing it's just the switch but there aren't any errors showing on the dash. Is this a common fault?

Could be a bulb failure or dodgy contact somewhere...

Hmm. Going out for a wee look in the time I have before the Scotland, Germany game.

Initially checked the switch from its connector to ground and it appears to be open circuit. Looks like the switch is goosed. I then connected the wire from the terminal on the switch directly to ground. As the switch is normally closed, switching the ignition on should bring the oil pressure light on. It didn't. I then checked for continuity from the connector on the rear of the instrument cluster to the end of the wire for the oil switch. That is good. So looks like the LED in the cluster may be at fault. I've opened it up and checked the resistance readings. The oil led is 240 ohms and the rev limit led is 7.4 meg ohms. The LEDs look the same but I'm not sure. Any ideas?? Should I be looking at fitting a new oil pressure switch and wiring a light in from a switched live to give me an indication?

Ordered a new switch from AP Workshops and a small LED indicator lamp from Amazon. Rather than fanny about trying to get an LED for the instrument cluster. Will fit the lamp somewhere near the cluster and run a wire from a switched live to the new pressure switch. I think it probably has been like this since I bought it but now I know it's faulty I'm scared to ride it.
