Brake rotors - Brembo or Galfer?
Hi all,
Looking at new brake rotors for the bike and after eliminating vast amounts of cheap crap from China (seriously? AU$200 for a pair of rotors? I'm not risking my life with them).
I've narrowed it down to either genuine Brembo rotors at AU$800 (with pads), or a set of Galfer wavy rotors for AU$600 (without pads). Note that a set of pads will be less than AU$200.
Does anyone have any comments / recommendations / caveats to help me make a decision, please?
Cheers,
V

It's the V-twin thing. There's just something about it that inline-4s don't have at all, and V-4s don't have enough of.

If you're on a budget you could try

They have some positive comments on this and other forums.

Insert humourous comment here
I have heard a bit of praise for the Blackshadow rotors, also praise for Gallfers BUT Gaflers do not like anything like damp weather at all.
Blackshadow are made in Wales, therefore weatherproof !
Your call as only you know the weather where you are ( you lucky git

Thanks guys,
The weather here alternates between "Where did I park my submarine?" to "Why is the road melting?". Quite often on the same day...
Email has been fired at BlackShadow to see what they come back with.

Hi all,

Wow.. Much time between visits. *sad face*
The rotors never got bought because I've moved into a house with my GF and I had long forgotten how expensive an experience that is. (Add in a 10% pay cut with the new job, and what few spare pesos I had are suddenly few and far between.)
Thankfully it's winter down here and too cold / wet to ride, so the bike has been tucked up warm and dry in the garage.
Which reminds me - it needs a service. :-(

Hi Viking,
I think I've still got a set of OE rotors somewhere that have done negligible mileage. Originally I ground the bobbins off to replace the rotors with some PFM ductile iron ones I had spare, so the OE rotors (I think) are still kicking around somewhere. Come to think of it I might even have the OE carriers with PFM rotors somewhere. Or again, perhaps not. Let me check and get back to you.
It's difficult being a hoarder with a crap memory...

Well I've definitely still got the OE carriers with PFM rotors, if you're interested, Viking. Very little use and the rotors have even been zinc coated to inhibit rust.

Failing that, Katie has posted up this link for brake discs on the Futura/Caponord sction. Looks promising?

Hi Mango,
Oh wow.... I totally, utterly, completely missed this when it arrived. 5 YEARS ago!
If you still have them, and if we can find a way to get the beer tokens to you then I'm interested. (I don't do PayPal these days for various reasons.)
Cheers,
V.

Re: Brake rotors - Brembo or Galfer?
Hi Viking - I really can't remember! I'll have to check the stash in a garage I rent. I suspect they may have gone AWOL, as I haven't seen them for a while.
Re: Brake rotors - Brembo or Galfer?
Hi Mango,
Don't stress too much about them. It's been 5 years now since I asked about brake disks (and no, I still haven't gotten off my lazy arse and sorted them out). If they've gone AWOL or to another rider, that's my fault for not acting sooner.
Cheers,
V.

Re: Brake rotors - Brembo or Galfer?
A delayed update - after having my eye on some disks from Italy (care of eBay) I've just taken delivery of some Aussie-made disks and sintered pads.
For any other Aussies on here (hello? Anyone?), the mob are called 'Metalgear' and operate out of Queensland. They claim to cater for over 3000 different brake disks, and I'm not going to doubt them.
Cost-wise, two new front disks and 2 sets of pads set me back AUD$600.
Now to find some time to install them and take the bike out for a test ride or several...
