RSV motor swap ..

Now.

I've been offered a relatively low miles RSVR lump ('05 with 11k) for not much money. I'm obviously thinking of buying it and bunging it into the Falco but I'm not so daft that I would think it's as simple as that ... The guy selling the motor has suggested that:

all you need to do is fit the stator and cam sensor from the falco, link the coils so you are only running 2 and get a chip for the ECU

So, what's the collective wisdom?? What is my Falco motor likely to be worth to sell and offset against the cost of the other one?

Ebay has a 46k Falco motor on sale for £320. It's the only UK one for sale; all the others are significantly more expensive and are from Europe or the US.

But before you take the plunge, I'd really seek advice from Griff Woolley at Aprilia Performance. The 05 RSVR motor had significant difference from the earlier RSV motor, including a very different ECU. At the very least you'll probably need to use the RSVR wiring loom, or make a hybrid Falco/RSVR loom.

This one is going for 350 with headers, but I'm not sure about TB's ... He's properly oop north but is in London regularly so I'd 'pop up to town' to pick it up. He seems quite knowledgeable about it an was singing the praises of Gabro over the Forza chip .. which makes sense as my Forza chip is so rich it stings the eyes of anyone behind ...

Gabro does bake very good chips :smt003 . But to be fair, I'm very happy with mu Forza chip, and it's extended my tank range by about 30 miles over standard so I can't complain.

Nowt wrong with my Forza chip, tried a Gabro and cooked my ECU but that was down to a near severed earth on the reg/rec.
It is not impossible that you got a rouge eprom

Well, I've pulled the trigger at 350 notes on this engine - including TBs and headers - hopefully...

The next stage will be interesting.

I'm picking it up on Thursday and will see how it goes.

I'm beginning to wonder if I was over thinking the job - I'm keeping the Falco's throttle bodies (cos there's none with the motor) so it will really be just a question of swapping the electrics over, juggling the coil leads around, and modifying the cam position sensor, fitting the headers and the RSV Carbon cans and having a chat with Mr. Gabro

Then light blue touch paper and retire ...

2005 so that'd be from the 2cnd generation Mille yes?

I recently put in a gen1 big valve mille engine into my Falco. I've kept the Gabro chip I was using in the Falco and throttle bodies etc. with no problems. It is a fair bit quicker BTW.

I have a friend who is constantly chasing his ideal bike, but the problem he has is that he wants different things all the time, so he's been through an MT10, BMW1300, Fireblade, 1200 Adventurer ... (more money than sense too!) and has finally ended up back with an R1200S, all in less than 12 months.

I think though, rather than changing bikes, I'd rather change my bike, hence the suspension improvement and the injection of a few more beans into the mix...
