O how I laughed!

Well, tonight I was mostly preparing the bike for the Welsh Rally and doing stuff to it that I'd been planning to do for a few months but never actually got around to doing - nothing new there really..

So, the plan was to install the ScottOiler that's been on my to-do shelf for the above-mentioned few months. Having done a couple in the past I didn't think it was going to be too challenging so set to it. I'd decided that the main unit was going in the tail fairing on the LHS subframe rail. I popped the bike up onto the ramp and checked the battery voltage - low at 11.5v so off came the saddle and on went the Optimate. Anyway, after much huffing and squeezing I managed to get the zip tie under the frame member and secured the reservoir, then lifted the tank to find the free vacuum spigot and attach the valve actuator pipe. Then I routed the feed tubing along the LHS subframe sticking the pvc tube to the underside of the swingarm, taking care to remove the gear lever assembly to better access. So far so good. Cuppa time.

After the tea and half a biscuit (dieting in preparation for the Welsh job!) I checked the battery again and was delighted to see a healthy-ish 12.8v so went for a start. I pushed the button and ..... pushed it again .... then once more to be rewarded with an empty but deafening silence. Nothing. No, I lie. there was a small click coming from one of the relays in the LH rear fairing. Bucking follix I thought, I've dislodged a wire somewhere, but where? Bucket - I hadn't got a clue so set to and took off the tail fairing and kept pressing the starter to identify which relay it was. That was the easy bit. The harder bit was trying to figure out why all I was getting was a clicking relay when all the wirig appeared intact. I directed my attention to the starter motor and was just about to check the solenoid when I idly pressed the starer again, but this time with the clutch in and ... big clunk as the starter engaged .. WTF?? I thought..

Then I looked at the dash and slowly the realisation dawned on me that the only thing I couldn't see as I repeatedly turned the ignition off and on again was ......

The fucking neutral light.

Oh I did have a little chuckle ...

There is an upside though, I took the opportunity - without the tail fairing in place - to make a much better and tidier job of the install, and also re-routed and reconfigured the comms while I was at it.

Eventually I was a happy puppy.
