Oil leaks

#1 Post by fatboy » Sun Jun 05, 2016 5:13 pm

One on each side of the motor , slowly worsening.
RH is dripping onto the switch in the crankcase behind the coolant tank but is not coming from the switch.
LH is on the bottom left of the oil cooler and is Clean oil.
There is a slight weep of clean oil coming from the oil filter cover so new O ring needed there.
Not sure why there is clean oil on the oilcooler.
Also slight leak from front cylinder valve cover but it is a light localised mist.
Im puzzled so any thoughts please?

A while back corrosion got at the core of my oil cooler and it leaked and had to be replaced.
Don't put off 'till tomorrow what you can enjoy today

Thanks, Im not convinced it is the oil cooler as there is more clean oil than used oil.
I've sourced a second hand one just in case as they cant be repaired, just re cored at around £200.. ouch.
Bit puzzled as to how the clean oil is getting there, the slight drip from the filter cover is a far distance for an oil leak to travel against the wind on the move.
Will look a bit more tomorrow as its beer oclock now

I went to one of Griff's service days recently (Liverpool), with two known oil leaks. One on the front rocker cover around the front (and awkward) bolt - I had hoped it would get sorted, however the bolt is seized in so couldn't be done (nor could the valve clearance check on that pot), they wouldn't force it while in someone's garage rather than the shop (understandable). Fix (if the bolt won't come out or snaps) - drop the engine... This one has weeped all the way down onto the oil cooler, so might be the same for yours?

The other is on the LH camchain adjuster plug, clean oil weep around the crush washer (which I've replaced but to no avail). Might be worth checking your RH one in case that is the source for yours? It's fairly easy to get to that one.

3rd one - same as you, the oil filter O-ring had flattened, sorted at service.
