Resurection

#1 Post by HisNibbs » Tue May 31, 2016 8:11 pm

Took the falco for it's MOT today. It failed due to a number of small issues like de laminating rear number plate, dodgy rear brake light swich, hugger touching tire and a throttle that doesn't shut when released.

However the good news is that the new Mille engine and previouse Falco Gabro chip seem a marriage made in heaven. I don't remember the old motor being as strong as this one appears to be. It was greacy, wet and I'd fittted a new back tire, so I wasn't able to fully test it. However it was about a 60 mile return trip to the MOT station and there was the odd occasion where the beast was able to show it's presence. Oh and I can confirm that the direct gear change is a big improvement.

Can any one point me to an alternative brake light switch that'll fit?

I got one of these because the original was (pick one as I can't remember):
- too expensive
- too fiddly
- seized to the bracket

You'll have to fit a connector or splice it onto the old wires though.

Good news that you're up and running and the swap paid off.

Passed MOT today. Now taxed too. Now how about a dry road or two please.

I've had a pressure brake switch for a while - ever since I fitted the radial master cylinder that can't use a normal switch.
TBH I'm not that keen. They can be a bit insensitive and not turn on the brake light unless you are squeezing sufficiently hard - i.e. light braking situations.
I've also heard of a number of failures - I had one myself the other week "on the way back from the MoT".
Fortunately I had a spare which went in straight away - but given the choice I'd take a normal switch every time.

I was finding it difficult to source an external switch that'd be a guaranteed fit. Contacted Griff and got a banjo pressure switch as fitted to the AP rear-sets. Seems to work fine and must surely be less susceptible to the corrosion etc that killed the original? Any way done now and we'll see how it lasts.

It doesn't matter if it's insensitive on the back brake as you wouldn't expect to stop suddenly on back brake alone. As it happens this one does come on before the brake engages.

On the standard falco setup there wouldn't be any need to fit a hydraulic switch on the front as the mechanical one isn't hard to replace (I still can't remember why the rear one was a pain but the hydraulic was so much easier).

Congratulations on the MOT!

Had one on for four or five years without any issues.
