Coolant leak - sorted

A couple of years ago I changed the coolant on the Falco and after that I had a leak from somewhere, it showed as a white mark and also some fluid pooled on the top of the clutch housing.

So yesterday I decided I was going to have a proper look, after tightening all of the hoses so many times I realised that it was nothing to do with them, I used logic and remembered how I drained the coolant the first time, I loosened the water pump housing, this proved to be the cause, I looked at the gasket and it was so flat as to be useless, so I applied a gasket sealer and put it all back together and ran it a few times and the leak has gone and I have finally cured it.

A tiny little victory but I did enjoy it.

Why didn't you just use the RHS radiator hose and the drain screw on the RHS of the engine? (OK, it's hiding behind something and a bugger to find, but it's detailed in the workshop manual.)

I seem to remember getting advice or reading something about using the former method.
I wish I had seen what you advised would have saved ma a load of grief.

This one dragged on for a little while so glad you have put it to bed.
Everyone thinks in slightly different ways, what may seem so bloody obvious to one may not even seem to be in the out field to another.
Hindsight gives everyone 20/20 vision but you cracked the bugger so mine's a pint of Stella ta !

I sorted a coolant leak over the winter and it was the transparent pipe with the level mark on it.
It was perished to the point that it basically crumbled to nothing after I'd removed it and twiddled with it.
My bike didn't hit the road until 06 so if you have a strange dribble or white marks it's worth checking.

Well you can't really see it if you're stood up. Unless you have a bike lift.
