Fun Quiz: Are the cams one tooth out?

Just checking I've got the cam timing right before I get back on the road.

flashback: This was my pristene, low mileage RSV engine from Belfast that turned out to have replacement heads and the rear timing was 360° out (amazing that he rode the bike before breaking it - you'd think you'd notice that you were riding a 495cc compressor)

By the by - I worked it out and got it running. But this is eating me - I know the marks don't line up exactly but this looks like I might be a tooth out! The engine has run like this without any hot valve on piston action but I think that's possible.

Here's a link to a piccy from 5 mins ago - with the rear locked at TDC.

Looks a tooth out to me too. AFAIK, IN should be horizontal across

Exhaust level - inlet slightly up

How hard would it have been to make it perfectly level I wonder?

I seem to remember some pictures somewhere of slotted sprockets to be able to adjust the valve timing.

Must have been the angle on the last photo as it appeared to be angled up by a full tooth on the inlet side when you had it at TDC

Actually you were right! I put the balancer gears back on and span the engine a few times and it looked out again. So I locked it in place with the proper bodged length of m8, took the gears off and it was definitely off a tooth. Fixed it, gears on and it's all good after rotating a few times with no crunchy valve on piston noises.

Getting very close to needing some fresh fuel to boot this thing up!
