Blade side stand... Not impressed!

First outing of the year today and I thought it would be good to get upto Griff's and get the bike setup ready for the season. So I had a new clutch jet and the clutch bled properly, Forza chip fitted and the throttle boddies balanced. While there I asked griff about the fireblade side stands. I had a VFR stand and while it was ok I thought it could be better also the kick leg had broken off so it was a pain, to get down with my foot and I usually had to resort to putting it down by hand. He had some in stock, so I got Al to fit one.
Alls well and a fantastic ride home if a little cold, the bike felt great. I was very happy until I stopped. The bike barely leans over, it's almost vertical on the new blade stand. I felt like it was about to fall back over. When perfectly upright the bottom of the stand leg is about half and inch off the ground. I wanted to ask you guys, is this normal? And if this is the improvement over the original Aprilia stand what the hell must that of been like?
It's as if the blade stand is an inch too long.
I went out again this afternoon and stopped in a layby which wasn't very level and I had to turn the bike around to get it to sit on its stand.
I'm thinking of phoning griff and asking him to fish my old one out of the bin.

Dunno, not got one, but -
I'm guessing a lot of peeps have got their bikes higher at the back. My rsv shock is as low as it'll go and it's about 10mm higher than standard. Other folk have more ride height dialled in at the back. You're too bloody cheap to buy a decent shock and therefore have no ride height adjustment at all.
Make a stand at work, nobody else will have one like it.

If you've got a standard blue-spring shock then the 'Blade sidestand will make the bike more upright than the OE one and also (by the sound of it) the VFR one. I'd give Griff a bell and ask him to keep your old stand and re-fit it until such time as you upgrade the rear suspension unit.

Not if it works once I've changed the suspension. If you want one phone AP, they carry a stock.

You won't regret it - it's a major improvement. Make sure you get the linkages with it.

Do the ohlins and linkages from a gen 2 work or does it need to be from a gen 1 RSV-R?

Hmmm.
The received wisdom is "No" .... however I've seen things that suggest they might.
TBH I'd not take the risk and stick to finding a Gen 1.
Also some of the Gen 2 triangles had been known to fracture .... I'd not run them on a bike they weren't designed for.

Cheers Andy.
Just bought this one off eBay

Just need to find some linkages now.
Oh and while I'm at it thought a Millie swinger wouldn't go amiss so just picked up one off rsvr.net

Gen 2 linkages and shock actually cause the bike to ride lower at the back than even a blue spring shock, so this would be the exact opposite of what you were trying to achieve. But it sounds like you're sorted with a Gen 1 shock now, anyway...

There are two Gen 1 mille ohlins shocks that will fit into the falco.
The AP8130 will use the standard dog bone and linkages from the falco. This is the early mille r shock.
The AP8140 is the later ohlins shock for the mille r which will need the correct linkages.
There is also of course a falco specific ohlins shock, but these tend to be quite rare.
When buying the shock, also budget for a service and re spring as these units are becoming quite old now.
Now I know you are looking, I will keep an eye out for you.
