Rearsets

At 5ft 10", i'm not particularly tall, but I seem to struggle on longer journeys. I did 60 miles this morning and my right foot was numb and right knee aching. I know some of this can be attributed to a recent sporting injury, but to be honest I have never been able to do any decent mileage without aching. I need to find a way of lowering the pegs. so there is less pressure on my right knee.

After some searching I can only see two options - Gilles rearsets (£360) or MFW lowered footpegs (£100 all in).

Has anyone got either of these fitted and how much do they adjustment do they cater for? I'm guessing i'm going to need 2-3 cm for it to make a difference.

I had MFW pegs on the Futura, for similar reasons - arthritis in my case. The extension plates were, IIRC, the 30 mm ones; I found they did what was needed. Here's how they looked on the Fut :

There are some almost identical - and cheaper - Chinese copies, which Keith (old git) has fitted to his Futura; AFAIK, he's still happy with them. Discussion here

You'll see from the last pic that the MFW system moves your foot further out from the bike - you might find you have to twist your ankle to get your toe on the brake lever sticky-out thing. I was going to extend it, but I just got used to it.

They certainly look like a better option to the gilles. How much adjustment can be had with them?

Cheers for the info MartDude, Seems like they really move the peg out quite a way, think i'd rather spend the extra money and get proper rearsets!

Im 6ft 6 and have AP rearsets. They have a good range of adjustment, although I could probably do with a small amount more for longer journeys but definitely a great investment.

I think he's changed the design a bit since I bought some but mine are a couple of inches lower than standard on the bottom hole with the back plates fitted pointed downwards if you see what I mean.

Now with pictures. Master cylinder had to be fitted outboard to clear the swinger. Needed spacers to stop the heel guard causing the master cylinder to bind. Brake line was made by Griff when he fitted the pegs although originally the backplates were the other way up. I decided I wanted lower.
