Check the dates on the tyres if you buy fella.

Don't forget they have a shelf life.

135 is less than 184, so unless the front is also shot, surely a no brainer?

I've got angel GTs on mine and I fookin love 'em. Easily the best tyre I've had fitted to any of my bikes. Any condition any temp anytime they feel like they're biting into the road. I'd buy another set without hesitation.

The Angel STs are Pirelli's previous generation of sports-touring tyre, the GT being the current version. They will doubtless be a very good tyre but, as Keith says, If you only need to replace the rear then you're £50 to the good. If the front will need replacement soon then the sums aren't quite so clear cut.

And as Jay says, if you go for the STs find out the date of manufacture moulded in the side wall. The date is in the format wwyy; i.e. 2510 means the tyre was manufactured in the 25th week of 2010.

Thanks for the replies, I've asked the seller for the manufacture date as I would not be needing the front hoop for a while.
What is the shelf life of a tyre ?

I believe the generally accepted rule of thumb is to steer clear of tyres over 6 years old. This is clearly an arbitrary number, and how the tyre has been stored will make a big difference to its condition. If it's a new unused tyre, stored in a cool-ish room and out of direct sunlight, I reckon you could easily add a year or two to that figure.

Another thumbs up here for the Angel GT, I've never felt so confident in the wet before on them.

The first tyre I got my knee down with

Just two hours ago the very same set propelled me from Watford to Cambridge through the dark and fog in a balmy 1 degree above freezing without a wobble..

They don't even feel like they're squaring off and they've done an awful lot of upright miles in the last few months.

I've just finished a pair of STs. No drama and they seemed to last forever, I didn't take much notice but I'd say somewhere north of 6000 miles. Never ridden on them when it was really cold but they saw plenty of wet.

Well the road pilots are excellent tires too, though you probably will not be able to get a road 3 rear any more. I can vouch for the fact that a 4 on the rear works very well with a 3 front as that was the mix I had on for a while.
