OK, so I know this sort of stuff has been asked before but...............

Got my first track day at Mallory on the 8th (did one at Cadwell about 5 years ago but it's so long ago I'm starting from scratch again) and wondered if anyone has done this track before and has any useful tips e.g. the tricky bits etc. Also, how hot are they on the noise limits? It's a 105dB day but the Rene's are bl**dy loud and I don't want to get sacked off before I start :smt009

Ta in advance

I did a track day at Brands recently, there was a noise limit of 102dB, I was sweating slightly :smt003 Baffled my Blueflames and they were 94dB! Which was pretty amazing as they sound l o u d even with baffles in. 102dB must be bloody loud. Chill.

Cheers Sab. I've got dB killers, which I'll fit anyway, so I guess that's all I can do (I'm not re-fitting the original boat anchors).

Any Mallory specific tips still welcome :smt006

Tweaker - I did the Honda Britain race school at Mallory. It is a deceptively technical circuit.

Places to be careful are the hairpin, its very very steeply banked, and the devils elbow (left hander after the bus stop into the home straight) it's a down hill left hand "off camber" and the front end feels real light. You also need to short shift before going into the bend so you can get on the gas early for the straight.

Gerards is ace, just goes on for ever. Good points are that it's nice and wide and quite short so you should get the feel of it fairly quickly.

Noise - Just done Cadwell today and my Blue Flames were tested at a quite 97dcb - I don't think you'll have a problem.

Enjoy.

Tweaker,

Never done a track day at Mallory but watched lots of races there.

Edwina's, which is the chicane at the end of the back straight, always seems to catch people out during club races.

I did Mallory with Focused Events last Saturday. it was supposed to be a 'road legal' day but there were plenty of full race exhausts and nobody batted an eyelid. I am sure you won't have any problems on a 105 day.

Top tip: Don't brake for Gerrards! It sounds crazy but you can just knock it down a gear before the 100m board and scrub off speed as you peel in towards the inside of the corner on a slightly negative throttle - because there is no apex as such, you're not turning it in fast as a normal corner and you can carry so much more speed than it originally appears.

Have fun - it's a great circuit.

Thanks to all for the input - just the sort of thing I was looking for. Gerrards is THE corner I'm looking forward to riding :smt041
I'll let you know how I get on..........

Cheers
