Oil Leak

Still trying to get my bike to run correctly but I am having an issue with an oil leak which I am having problems curing. It's coming from the oil feed pipe on the left hand side of the engine next to the oil filter. After a few seconds of running, oil is coming out of the flange where the pipe connects to the engine. I have tightened the bolts but it still continues and have replaced the pipe with one from another engine but it still leaks.

I have inspected the 'O' ring and it seems to be fine with no nicks and again have replaced with one from my spare engine but still no cure. Is there a special way of tightening this all up or anything else I can do to get it to seal?

How odd. Would Hermatite work?

Silly idea... are the bolts the right length? They're not bottoming out in the crank case?

Don't worry about silly ideas as anything is welcome right now :-) I've just been out and bought a new 'O' ring to try but as far as I can tell I am using the original bolts. I am at least confident that it is the pipe and not the oil filter housing itself. This was a bit difficult as the leak is right where the 2 are closest to each other.

Hopefully a new O ring will work but this is the 3rd I've tried now. Seems odd to have a pipe like this and then hang the oil tank off it as I would have thought that would add a strain to the flange where it mounts to the engine.

BTW - did you get your engine running correctly? Mine seems to run fine but didn't half rattle when I first fired it up! I guess it took a while for the oil to reach everywhere even though I did spin it over on the starter with the plugs out to build up some oil pressure first...

I *think* this is sorted now. Although I'm not 100% certain I think that it wasn't actually the oil pipe leaking but was coming down from a bolt recessed into the engine casing just above the oil filter which was loose. Certainly tightening up that bolt appears to have stopped the oil leak but I did also replace the 'O' ring (several times!) as well.

That'll probably be the bolt behind which the clutch oil jet is located.
If the oil jet mod hasn't been done, you might be removing that one again in a little while.
