Steering Damper feels....

Hi guys, after fitting my Mille damper a little while back I've been out a few times since I got back from training, thing is I fitted it using all the correct hardware etc but at slow speeds like driving around towns and driving out the 3 mile single track road from my house with endless blind corners, It feels rather odd, as in it feels like the bike wants to steer on its own accord and you need to keep correcting it. If it was adjustable I'd say its set to hard and needed tuning down. The quicker you go the less you notice it. Apart from driving flat out all the time is it just a characteristic of the damper and I need to get used to it or does it sound.....perhaps faulty?

Oh and another question lol one of the guys at the fire station asked what power is my falco producing, I said I wasn't exactly sure but I said approx
125hp
My mods are
Hooked renegade style airkit with pipercross air filter
Open race akroprovic cans
Gabro chip set on full power map for the airkit
And if you can include although I doubt they make any difference irridium plugs.
She's got plenty other cosmetic upgrades etc but the above is my only tuning mods done.
Is my 125hp a bit optimistic?
Cheers :)

Hi alad, yes it's just the standard red Mille damper, you don't notice it's there at speed but slow driving its...strange. Almost to the point of removing it.

There's an answer there, don't go slow...

Falco's don't like going slow, in fact it's near impossible to go slow lol mines just reminding me..OI speed up please lol

Sounds like its too stiff and if your bars are not flapping around you probably don't need one.
As for power output, mine is a similar spec and when nearly new was 119 BHP. So maybe your guess is slightly optimistic. However 120 genuine Falco BHP seems a match for 170 of other types...

I'm not a big fan of steering dampers. The only one I've ever used was on a TL1000S, and it was the one Suzuki retro-fitted as a recall. I hated it and removed it within a week. If you've got a bike that needs a steering damper you should either a) take up racing or b) find out what's causing the problem on the bike and fix it.
If you're racing at the Isle of Man, you definitely need a steering damper. If you're a road rider and the bike is making shapes you don't like, then a steering damper is simply masking an underlying problem.
IMHO, of course.

A steering damper is like any other type of hydraulic damper, over time the oil will emulsify and significantly alter the charecteristics of the unit.
Too stiff it is then !

Hi guys, :) there was never any problem before with funny shapes etc, she drove a beaut. But because I had fitted heli bars I was under the impression the higher bars (could) not saying it would, cause the steering to get a little more on the twitchy side hence why I sourced a damper to perhaps eliminate this potential problem. But I'm not really that keen on it so it's probably comming back off. :)

The falco produces 106bhp in standard form.
Open air box I would imagine 3-4 bhp.
Open cans same again maybe?
I am a bit unsure that iridium plugs would give a power increase. Besides all they do is ignite the petrol?
The gabro will increase the amount of fuel required to make the air/fuel ratio for your modifications correct at the throttle bodies.
I wouldn't think you would have more than 115 bhp or near that. But a dyno would be better than guessing.

FYI My figure came from the dyno chart supplied to me with the bike.

Iirc it was 106 standard BEFORE the wire snipping and air plate removal
Then it's up to 112
Decent after market cans - 5 bhp
K&N 2-3 bhp
Evo/renegade air kit - 5bhp
Mid box mod - full Mille version possibly 3-5 bhp
Gabro or similar - 3 - 5 bhp
Power commander sorts fueling not bhp
Also remember dyno's vary - some are optimistic

Are we talking at the crank or the back wheel?
