I know there have been many of these and have read through most of the ones returned by the search but most people seem to have the issue when they hit the starter. I'm actually getting this before I have even hit the starter, just basically as soon as i turn the key for power on.

I'll try the cleaning and tightening the battery connectors and failing that, a new battery but has anyone ever experienced this before or have I misread some of the other threads?

History: about a month ago after riding from South London to Bedford, the damn thing wouldn't fire up on the way home. Had to get it jump started and then it was fine. Have not had a problem starting it since and it is on the optimate regularly. Regular Dash reset has only started happening about a week to 10 days ago, literally ever time I turn the key but it still starts without a problem after this without having to switch off and then on again.

i suggest your battery is seriously shagged....

BUT

check the connectors on the terminals etc

Possibly blown a fuse somewhere, which maintains continuous power to the dash when the key isn't on, so dash remains while powered but drops as soon as the key is removed.

dunno if this is feasible (as I haven't checked the wiring diagram), but given it's happened after a jump start this would seem possible.

Thanks for the replies guys. Will try the connectors first and post back the results. I can't complain really as aside from this the only problem I've had since owning is the speedo going which was rectified by replacing the cable with an item from fleabay. That and riding into a wall which took out an indicator and cracked a radiator!

So back to page 78 of the book itself.
If the vehicle remains unused for more than 20 days, disconnect the 30A fuses in order to avoid deterioration of the battery caused by the current consumption of the multifunction computer.
(NOTE the removal of the fuses ….. will reset the digit clock and red line settings …. Which will need to be reset.)
If the vehicle remains unused for more than 15 days, it is necessary to recharge the battery.

Doesn't mention the speedo resetting but maybe a fuse could be responsible although not sure how to explain the failed start a month ago.

Will try connectors first, then check fuses, then replace battery.

My Falc knows this little prank very well !
Sometimes when starting I just get aticking noise,switch off, switch on and reset speedo to english and rev limiter to fun mode...
All battery and starter leads good, fuse connections good,starter relay 150 amp and good.
Maybe coincidence but started happening after HID conversion.
I'll live with it !
