aprilia front wheel

#1 Post by robbier6 » Fri Oct 04, 2013 7:48 am

Does anybody have a front wheel for sale, it appears mine has a crack as i have a slowly deflating front tyre, again, last one did the same so i can't be that unlucky to get two punctures in two tyres.

will also try and see where it's cracked tomorrow, using the old soapy water trick :smt002

get in touch with a local fab shop and see if they can do a penetrant check. This will look for any surface flaw defects.

Problem is finding an engineering shop, plus the dye can be expensive then the x-ray to show up the dye, should get similar results using a soapy solution :smt003

ya don't need to xray for a dye penetrant check. An xray will show up a crack too but will be more expensive.

a dye pen check should be too expensive certainly no more than an hours labour.

Wheel off and stick it in the washing up bowl. Move the wet bit round occasionally. Congratulations, you are now a certified air under water pressure test operative.

X-raying a bike wheel would be a pain in the arse to do properly and need multiple shots or a real time set up. Not the best method for cracks either because they tend to disappear if you hit them at the wrong angle.

If you get it dye penned try to get it done by someone set up to do fluorescent. Much more sensitive.

Was. Twenty years behind the set man and boy. :smt001
I keep getting bored and going and doing something else for a bit.
Did a job for my old lot round Christmas, probably go back at some point but I'm really enjoying myself not NDTing at the minute.
