noisy pipes.

#1 Post by zoidberg » Wed Jul 24, 2013 6:52 pm

has anyone got the SL Carbon Racing cans fitted?

I would like to do a track day but the noise limit is 102dB static and 92db drive by.

These cans are loud and need to know if i'll be allowed on the track with them.

Thanks..

you may just be ok

we discussed it at 1000 bikes and iirc 102 was mentioned

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

No no - whatever they tell you, these cans will never pass. Fortunately I have the perfect solution for you - a genuine set of standard silencers - absolutely ideal for your purposes.

In fact I've got 2 spare sets cluttering up - sorry, I mean taking pride of place in the garage - just waiting for someone with trackday or MOT needs to offer me huge sums of cash :smt003

I have a standard set, the down side is they are so heavy they have their own gravity!

Options:

Some MOT testing stations - cant remember proper name, goods testing? sometimes have noise meters.

and some trackday companies used to have stockists along that would sell DB killers.

Otherwise, even Maplin noise meters are expensive!

I remember that on top gear when in the tunnels below the Rumanian Government buildings they had downloaded an app for this to see whose car was the loudest £3.99 ?

Should do - they are sold as BS approved.

I've never had a problem .... but then I don't go to where I would run that risk

Depending on your choice of phone there will be an app that works as a sound meter.

I have SmartTools on my android.

Might not be 100% accurate but will definitely give you an indication.

Ta. I'll have a look at the app.

Mine passed MOT with the pipes fitted.

The SL carbon cans are the loudest pair of cans i have heard.

I had a set of my falco before the right hand side disintegrated.

I still have the left in the garage somewhere...

I doubt they would be OK for track day use noise wise. They were a bit louder than the fuel cans I have now without the baffles in, and a bit deeper IMO.
