strange one, that for the moment has me flummoxed

I stripped the panels etc off the bike last november and have been working away for several months on assorted things

Last week, I was in a position where I could get it back on the road again for a morning jolly - so, i threw it together... but the bike would not start

no worries, I stole hanna's oasis green falco and went for a much needed blast

so last week end I decided to get to the bottom of it not starting

first thing is - the battery is fine and is on an optimate

second, there is no alarm

ok - so, the fuel pump does not prime - at all - the bike turns over but no fuel, no firing....


hmmm having had a dodgy kill switch for a while, I remembered that I had a spare kill switch in the garage ... after taking apart the screen and surround, I changed that - still nothing

so - double checked all the fuses - could not see a blown one......

checked the tip over switch... tried it the other way up just in case,,,, nothing

hmmm - lets try the diag approach - connected the two leads and bugger me - shows nothing - not even diag on the display....

so, off with the rear cowl again.....

hmmm on the left side with all the relays I have a two part connector that goes to nothing - has two light blue leads on it - is this the same for every one else?

and finally, any thoughts anyone? or is this going to be a long take everything apart and check job?

It's not the wires for the indicator flasher unit? That's about the only thing with two wires in that area...

How about the diode module, the grey one next to the relays on the back left of the bike. Try swapping with Hannas

blue wires afraid my Daltonism doesn't allow me to go further on that one but I don't recall having any spare wires ... previous accessory removed?

Work backwards. Eliminate the fuel pump first and swap tanks with the funny coloured one. If all is ok trace back the wiring from the pump to known working power source.


You could also put some petrol in it as well lol


Or better still...............in and buy a yellow one.

It won't need much petrol Paddy, if the fuel pump aint running!
Trying Hanna's tank/fuel pump does sound like a good start Pete, but I would stick some fresh super unleaded in your tank if it has been stood with unleaded sludge in the tank over winter.

Unless it's in gear, this won't stop it starting

I find that not trying to start it as such but just trying to get any residual fuel from the syatem through always helps after a lay up before going for the big raucous I need noise pump

Mine did this after the last time I had the arse plastics off.
Bike turned on but pump didn't prime, in much the same way as if you turn it on without turning the alarm off first.

I'd pulled the wires off one of the doohickeys under the tail. Near side, where all the relays live, closest one to the front of the bike. Take the tail off Hanna's compare the wiring for spare blue dangly wires and try swapping the doohickey over.

If it's not priming, is the fuel pump relay OK? swap it with the engine kill relay, as they are the same, and try again.

Funnily enough mine is being temperamental at the moment too. It's as if they are all too old and want to give up on life.
