So cheesed off, I was watching a third steering damper on the bay after being outbid on the first two. This one included a top yoke too. The wife had to go out and left me in charge of looking after the little man, mid bath. All was going well until he refused to put on his nappy just as the listing was almost finished, as you know kids Come first so I had to stick it out, got it done, dashed through with him to just miss the damper.........with no bids............GUTTED. Guess you win some and you.....miss some lol

Cheers, that's what I did. But e-bay rules claim your not to reply to messages offering to buy outside eBay, so I don't hold out much hope. You never know he might go for it, I even offered more than he was potentially going to get anyway, but we'll see. I'll keep you posted. :smt009

Rules are for the observance of fools and the guidance of wise men... :smt003

Similar thing happened to me the other week - missed the listing ending. Contacted the seller to explain what had happened and to "see if he would be listing it again". Popped over to his place the next day, paid cash and came away with the goodies.

I think we're good to go, he messaged back saying that was not a problem he would send me the damper, no mention of the top yoke but I'm not overally fussed for that but I asked anyway so we'll see.
Happy chap again :smt003
Kids eh! Gotta love em

All done, :smt001 he had made a counter offer to my higher offer anyway
......sneaky.... Ah well still the same price as the others but a top yoke too.
Phew, :smt001 thinking I might get the yoke powder coated a subtle nice colour as my own top yoke will have to come off anyway to fit the heli bars.

You should just put in your absolute maximum when you first bid and never check it till after it's finished. Trying to swoop in last minute will mean you'll end up in a bidding war and pay more than you really wanted to, or losing it.

4 years ago, my ex girlfriends brother in law was trying to win a grandfather clock by going in at the last second, he lost it and it sold for about £200 less than he was willing to pay.

Don't ask me what a 37 year old wanted with a grandfather clock, still puzzles me to this day??!! :smt017

Nah

Decide your maximum
sit watching target - hidden in the long grass
about a minute from "the kill" load your maximum into the bid box ready to fire
hold your nerve
last few seconds, fire.

No bidding war - single shot - lowest possible price.

You win every time unless
- someone wanted it more and bid higher
- you fell asleep
- some numptie disturbed you
- your internet connection died

I usually put a small bid in just so that I get warning etc about ending times. Then I do the same as D-Rider, wait till the last few seconds and shoot. Usually in the last 5 seconds. Just hope you don't get a glitchy internet connection at that moment.

if you buy a lot on evil bay, invest in sniper software....

but do research first and only download from trusted sources

Nah! put in a bid on the last day for at least a couple of grand over what you really want to spend then dont check until the next day whether or not you were successful. You usually win ! and its really exciting too! :smt004

Is this the time to dig out some of Pierre's old posts that started along the lines "I got back late from the pub and must have turned my computer on and started an ebay session .............."

Oh those posts were so entertaining .......... sets of leathers that may only have fitted Warren Davis, helmets that he tried stretching to get on his head - the list of extraordinary purchases was something to behold ....................

Just as well he's not been on here lately - there's no telling how many kitchens he may have ordered ...........
