May be of interest re bars

#1 Post by Aladinsaneuk » Sun Feb 10, 2013 1:10 pm

I recently acquired a set of Gilles Vario bars - no longer made so getting a tad rare

This morning I started to fit them, but I also compared them re position of the bar

Obviously, the vario bars have a lot of adjustment - BUT they would, for my desired setting, be pretty much the same as fitting the bars over the triple

So, I am not going to fit them - for others who are taller/shorter or need more adjustment, then they are ideal, but for those of us with a 5 '9" Buddha physique, bars over the triple is as good

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I was going to ask how much different they were from the normal bars over the yokes.
I now have an answer, so I may eventually go down the "over the bars" road, as I have the same outstanding 5 '9" Buddha physique.

P.S. Nearly forgot, the other thing is does it make it any easier without modding the fairing?
With the bars over the yokes you can get away with an bit of juggling around of the brake cylinder etc., and may even manage it on standard brake lines etc., if you loosen the nearest ties to the bars.

Only thing, at least on my falco, that I had to do was to remove the bat that holds the brake reservoir and rotate my switch gear a tad

No fairing fouling at all

Mate of mine spent 150 quid on a set of fully adjustable bars for his rsv, we now constantly take the piss out of him as they're in the same position as the stock ones he took off :smt003

They're a protected species you know. Why not just use a metal bracket like a normal people?

Now, how do I get bars that are in the standard position but wider?

You get longer clip ons, or vario bars - they adjust in all planes....

If you lost some weight they might seem wider?? Or superglue some spacers to the side of your hand so you can't get your hands as close together?? Just a few low cost solutions :)

Seriously though, if you got some clip ons with removeable handlebars then there's no reason you couldn't swap these with any length of bar, thus giving you the perfect length.

I'm big boned...
I find I'm riding with the heel of my hand on the anti cyclist knobs on the end of the bars. I've looked at clip ons but then I'd lose the rise on the standard bars. Maybe clip ons over the yoke. Still pondering this one.

Moving the bars over the triple will not make them longer

I do know of a set of vario bars with brand new tuono throttle cables that would be wider if adjusted that are for sale...

I've put the standard clippons over the yokes, but I'd still like them higher and further back. Wouldn't adjustable clippons go higher than standard if fitted over the yokes?

Another idea. There must be standard clippons from another bike which fit the forks and are higher and further back?
